Yeah, right, Christiane Knight

Hey friends! I'll be reading with a fantastic line-up of talented women and non-binary science fiction, fantasy, and horror authors--Justine Lombardy, Lusine Torossian, M. Luke McDonell, Christine Lajewski, and Lisa Perskie Rodriguez--happening this Thursday September 17th from Strong Women - Strange Worlds. I think I'm done with 2026. I wonder if I can get a partial refund.

I really, really, REALLY miss having a radio show.

I keep reminding myself "you don't have the time to add another thing to your roster of XianeThings"

But that doesn't make the craving shut up

The Narratess Indie Book Sale is live at https://indiebook.sale/ and ready for you to fill up your e-reader!
My book A Small Light in the Darkness joins SO MANY great indie books, all on sale from August 29 - 31.
Treat yourself to indie books! This is a fantastic way to explore some of the best titles in indie fantasy, science fiction, and horror.

Also I did manage to get a haircut [finally] from the only stylist I trust and now my hair has gone back to maximum curly for me and although I have to get used to styling it all over again... I'm really loving it. So boingy!

Just heard that a new local indie book event flopped, and that's so disappointing, but I think there's some reasons for it. One, it came right after another big event, and I think that was too close in this economy. We were oversaturated. Also it was awfully big for a first time event, maybe too ambitious. Third, when I saw the venue I thought "that's a weird place to do this." I think I was right.

Super sorry for the authors who lost out on sales and money. :/

So on the 8th of this month I vended at a big book fair, then on the 10th, a huge [exhausting & exhilarating] BTS concert, all in horrible heat and humidity.
Every since then, I've been in the worst Crohn's flare I've had in ages. Won't go into details, but it's been highly unpleasant and I've spent lots of down time on the couch.
The positive thing that's come out of it is that I've made myself rest, and I finally dove back into the current project [Eleriannan #4], albeit carefully. Slowly. +

omg omg omg
other than adding in the front matter, ToC, and notes/acknowledgements, I think I might maaaaaaybe be finished formatting this book. I could *knocks on wood* wrap it up this weekend!

Oooh! Got my programming schedule for Balticon and I'm SUPER pleased with it! I'll make a fancy graphic later, but if you're going to attend [and if you're in the area you really should, it's great] I'm having an official launch party for A Small Light in the Darkness there & would love to see you!

#Balticon60

Missed the Launch Party? I got you!

If you missed yesterday's Launch Party for A Small Light in the Darkness, never fear! I have uploaded it to YouTube and will also embed it at the bottom of this blog post, for easy access.

I'm almost--ALMOST!--at the end of formatting this book. I can't believe that at the end of the road, I'll have personally done just about every aspect of making A Small Light in the Darkness happen, from writing to formatting to cover design and publishing. I've learned so much with every book I've published!

[Of *course* I paid for an editor, though. Best money I can spend. ]

I've seen some people roll their eyes and call putting together a playlist for one's books juvenile.

As a DJ-brained person who lives with their own personal soundtrack going, a hearty fuck you for shitting on other peoples' fun. No one's making you listen, bud. I don't feel sorry at all that you're missing out on the sonic reinforcements to the story playing out on the pages.

Also, my book soundtracks are fucking GOOD. Here's the one for the upcoming book.

A Small Light in the Darkness is a speculative fiction story that talks about:

* relationships & how we can be manipulated by them
* what happens when we tamper with our brains
* what makes us who we are
* who we might be if circumstances are slightly changed
* ambition without empathy

A friend started this thread elsewhere and I thought it would be funny to share here.

Five jobs I've had:

- manager/book ordering at an occult shop
- kitchen manager
- office manager at a publishing company
- on-air FM radio DJ
- clown

These are just some of the jobs I've had. Some were really silly, though clown is pretty close to the top.

@krusynth@mastodon.publicinterest.town @voltur@masto.hackers.town Could be several, la la la

[I'm sure there are people in our shared circles who think the same about me, woo]

@voltur@masto.hackers.town thank you so much!
I think you'll like this story, it's... well, I think you'll like it as someone who has spent time connecting with people that you might never see in person

Cover Reveal: A Small Light in the Darkness

I'm pleased to finally reveal the cover for A Small Light in the Darkness, a wistfully hopeful near-future speculative fiction novel. It will be available in Spring 2026.

What’s it like to be free?

We have to fight for freedom. Some fights require hands or weapons. Straightforward resistance, you know? What most people consider the purest form of resistance, even if they don't realize it. Resistance is more complex than an outright battle, though. Resistance starts with "No, I won't do that."

Seconding this rejection

@voltur@masto.hackers.town not weird at all. Sad, deeply disappointing, and sometimes it's mixed with guilt - for me, at least - that I didn't see it sooner.
