In the early hours this morning I didn't think I had a poem in me. I was still recovering from a virus related fever (and super-watt migraine) yesterday. But I did what I teach to do and just start writing and it started to form and I ended up with something I am proud of. I do not know how many people will really understand it, but that's life.

Scrolling down NPR's homepage. I mean, pick any story to get upset about.

Getting frustrated. Looking at a white man who is just a few days older than my mother and my mother, well, you wouldn't believe it unless you met her. People do not know what a life of poverty can do. This white male had every opportunity literally handed to him just because he lived in a different part of the country. That might sound like a cheap excuse, but you live a lifetime in the South and then in California and come and tell me the impact is minimal. My mother was robbed of a life of different quality. This white man had absolutely everything. And he is loved even by me, while my mother is invisible to the world.

I really want to see Project Hail Mary, but I can wait for it to stream. I haven't been to a theater since I went to see the film adaption of August Wilson's Fences.

"Georgina will try and survey as much as possible of the country’s vast peat bogs, however these areas cover hundreds of square kilometres. Some of the land is owned by the RSPB and National Trust, but much of it is in private hands.

She explained: 'This has never been done before and we’ve got huge blanks on the map: for some of these sites we haven’t had records for 25 years. If we get glorious summer weather and I can go out and visit sites five days a week then I will.'

The person behind Bold Bubbles homemade soap, who I have bought a fair amount of soap from, is profiting off charity. She has a "charitable" giving away that she is taking 1 dollar off her expensive soap for the next Trek Talks, which raises money for food for the unhoused in LA, and she will donate a whole dollar per expensive bar of soap sold, pocketing the rest as profit. It is a real shame they are letting her do this. I will never buy from Bold Bubbles again.

One of my favorite #NaimaBock songs is "Takes One" - "If it takes one to know one, then thank god I don't know you at all" - beautiful line. It was really frustrating for me because she was playing that song during her tour with her former band for her first album, but the song was not on the first album, so I didn't know if was a cover, or the title, or anything, and I couldn't make out all the lyrics, but I had hours and hours of live performances from the first album tour, and it was a little different each time, but so beautiful. Then it was finally released as a solo single. So different without the band, but at least I finally knew what it was. It was on the second album, again, another version. And then on her Live in Toulon album, which was the best since her first tour version(s), even if it was solo. Really beautiful vocals. There is a line, "someday your find another one" and I listen to and I love listening* to it, even though I know I never will and I 98% I do not want to. I have been divorced for a number of years now and I have been happy this whole time. It's like before marriage was all the relationship constant messes ups and downs and then when the perfect relationship didn't work, and she even because abusive, it's like, nothing can work. I am so much better and happier being solo. But it a rather counterintuitive mindset from the rest of society. Everyone is conditioned that they need someone to pair with. Pairing is not required for contentment.
