We received helpful feedback that, as of April 2026, the situation around Vinyl Cache and Varnish Cache might not be easy to understand for users and distribution package maintainers alike.

This is an attempt to help clarify what Vinyl Cache and the new Varnish Cache project are.

Hello! We are The Vinyl Cache Project, the high performance HTTP accelerator and traffic controller formerly known as Varnish Cache.

Vinyl Cache 9.0.0 is out!

Everything has new names starting with vinyl now: vinyld, vinyladm, vinylstat etc

We know, some chores for you, our users, but we do not intend to change the name again.

Other than that, a security fix (more on that next) but no other breaking changes expected.

This is also fixed in 9.0.0 and can easily be mitigated in VCL.
