@codinghorror@infosec.exchange It's not charity. It is very efficient economically, think of it as priming the pump with the first payment and then each payment pays for work done to date. So only the first and last payments are charity.

@lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org The church concerned is unequivocal about reporting abuse. I wonder have they any sanctions they can apply? Sounds like state law versus ecclesiastical law argument. @kottke@mastodon.social We have UBI for children (https://www.gov.ie/en/department-of-social-protection/services/child-benefit/) and old people (https://www.gov.ie/en/department-of-social-protection/services/state-pension-non-contributory/) in Ireland too. Child Benefit is a monthly payment of €140 to support parents and guardians. It is paid for each child who:
- normally lives with you and is being fully supported by you
- is under 16, or under 19 if in full-time education, full-time training or has a disability and cannot support themselves The State Pension (NC) is a means-tested payment if you don't qualify for a ... pension
