today is a day that's kind of significant to me (not my birthday, but i don't want to give too much away by explaining). and i woke up to texts from both of my parents sending well-wishes.
our relationship is really damaged, and i'm not sure how i would have felt exactly if they hadn't messaged. but i'm tempted to say that it would have been a relief. this way, it just felt very suffocating. it was early still and i slept some more, and when i was done,

@ dear libraries, afaik you can't claim a new copyright just for scanning a document that's been in the public domain for aeons.

i mean it's common courtesy to mention where i've seen the document anyway, so i'll mention you! but demanding that i now also slap an incorrect creative commons license link onto everything is so absurd.

we're talking about 1700s and 1800s public documents, and they're categorising them into non-PD CCs (and inconsistently).

BUT i would love to hear some recommendations for fiction #books where the protagonists are casually queer. like, where the book's not mainly about that, but they just are.

i can't read horror, and crime's a bit hit-and-miss for me, but anything else, i would love to hear what you've enjoyed!

brains with trauma can be such jerks.
a friend mentioned an upcoming celebration in another city, stated in general that they were going to drink alcohol + that maybe lunch there the next day could be nice.
i'm probably going to be there for a good chunk of that, and their words were so similar to what my toxic ex used to say, that what my brain heard was: you're going to have to suffer through everyone being wasted and dangerous.

and like... it is so clunky and inaccessible and just, ugh. e-mails used to be a very smooth thing, but even taking into account that we'll adjust... it feels like this is going to be a very constant annoyance now 🙈

fyi that the word "fren" (as a version of "friend") is often a nazi dogwhistle. i understand not wanting to let them have it, but it doesn't look good if you use it.

this should go without saying, but please 1. be safe and don't give away your home location by posting very easily identifiable photos, 2. don't be a creep and image-search people's photos to identify their home location. 🤦🏻‍♀️

i genuinely need to teach my brain that not everything that feels like an emergency, or should be one according to previous experiences, is actually an emergency.

been working on this for years now, it's getting better, but it's so hard for me to get over this feeling when there's something that diverges from a pattern i "know" to mean an emergency.

it's good that i'm good with patterns and spotting differences, but not everything needs to set off my alarm.

ordered a tiny custom painting of a pet as a gift for a friend, from an artist who offers custom pet paintings from photos. they sent me pictures of the finished painting... and, reader, it does not look like the pet, except for the colours.
i've said nothing. might just try to re-sell it for little money. i genuinely cannot gift it as the animal is not recognisable.
i know this sounds like i fell for a scam, but tbh i think the artist was just super unsuccessful this time.
