It's time for another monthly recap! Can't believe it's already August. But I probably will say that every month.

I was bored waiting on my AI to do some work yesterday (software developer) so I used the time to make this cute A8 sketchbook from Khadi 150gsm cotton paper. This pairs well with my tiny palette that I freshened up today while waiting on the AI, again. 🤪 Brave new world and all that.

A rather ugly sketch of some apricots. But sketching for 5min is better than not sketching at all, I guess.
Six months of doing art
Recap of all the art created in June 2026. This also marks six months of me picking up painting as a hobby.

Today’s kit is the tiniest kit. Paper is 6.5x6.5cm for reference.

Gouache in a 10x10cm sketchbook. No line work, just paint. Pretty happy with this.

My current watercolour palette. Standard paints interspersed with highly granulating ones. The best of both worlds and a lot of fun. And obviously subject to change. I don’t take bets on when this image will be outdated. 😛

Went out #urbansketching today. Forgot my watercolour palette so had to finish at home. 🤪

Landscapes are hard! The foreground and the sky are OK, anything in between ended up like a green/brown mush.

My first hand made watercolor sketchbook is done. Well, the cover needs to be spiced up a bit, but that’s it. Oh, and maybe the overhang of the covers will need to go. Not sure, yet.

Playing around with my granulating watercolour palette. Still need to figure it out completely. This turned out a bit too dark and muddy, I think.
Khadi 150gsm paper in A7. Fun deckled edges. It buckles like crazy when wet, but dries almost completely flat.

Continuing with the insects in the tiny sketchbook. That’s a lot of fun.

Finished building my granulating / low tinting mini watercolour palette today. Some combinations lead to really wild mixes. I can’t wait to try it out in a real painting.

Went out urban sketching today. That was fun! I seem to slowly get an idea of the supplies I need. I only used one of my six brushes, for example.

Obersee am Königssee, Bavaria from a hike last year. Crazy cold water but nice and refreshing after the hike.
Inktense and pen. 10x10cm
Not bad, but I still like watercolour better.

My son eating his lunch. Only on holiday obviously. ;). We don’t have that every day.
Tiny 6.5x6.5cm paper. Painted with the kit from my last post.

I am continuing with the tiny paintings. Today I created this cutout so that I can display the 9 best. For now I’ll just display everything as I’m not at 9. 🤣

Reworked my sketches from yesterday. Turns out, if you pick up the paint directly from the watercolour pencil core it can go on top, whereas with this paper you somehow cannot add a second layer with the pencils directly.

I made another watercolour sketchbook. 80 pages of A5 using Khadi 100% cotton 150gsm paper. The deckled edges look cool and work well with the DIY vibe of the rest of the book.

Another month of painting. That one felt pretty long and I am surprised at how much I did do! Lot's of gouache and watercolour.
