Sit tight! I've still been working on the next version of Gimme. Last version included a pixel variants of my "Battleship" game letters, but I felt they could use some polish. As below: VGA, EGA and CGA. SVGA will be something... Different if I get around to it.

The EU will get some new banknotes! Interesting to see what alle the designers have come up with. Some of them feel a bit too simple for me, or way too busy to be useful as a banknote. But it's nice to see such a wide array of approaches.

The European Central Bank (ECB) is the central bank of the European Union countries which have adopted the euro. Our main task is to maintain price stability in the euro area and so preserve the purchasing power of the single currency.

Some really cool news from Affinity, as shown here in this in-depth explanation by @jectives@typo.social : It now supports adjustments and selection of color palettes!

No more need for endless different font styles (Guess why my latest version of Gimme is over a gigabyte unzipped) and all the possibilities a user wants to make the color scheme fit the design without creating outlines.

@pixelambacht@typo.social You seem to be ahead of the curve as one of @jectives@typo.social comments is about color and palette names!

@cjtype @djrrb @behdad @pixelambacht Thank you! Will have a look when I can focus on fonts again. It will probably become my favourite pastime to describe over 50 colours in a single palette!

@jectives@typo.social I think outside the tutorials for making them in @glyphs@typo.social (https://glyphsapp.com/learn/creating-a-microsoft-color-font) writeups by @googlefonts@typo.social (https://fonts.google.com/knowledge/introducing_type/introducing_color_fonts) an extensive post by @typetodaynews@bird.makeup (https://type.today/en/journal/colorfonts) or my little writeup about how variable color fonts work https://www.typearture.com/howdotheywork there isn't *that* much. For Variable font's it's much better of course, but I don't immediately have the best sources. For COLRv1 I think it's even more rare, and how to create them is totally non-existent.

@jectives@typo.social Now this is something I've missed, and a big plus for color fonts! Great to see palette support and COLRv1 support in Affinity. I know Adobe has been working on adjustable colours somewhere in '20-'21, but once again, Affinity takes the crown. Thanks for being an Color Fonts ambassador, and your descriptions were on-point! And seems I have to update my tiny explainer page ;). About the shadow: It's not in the font, but more as an explainer on what's possible with alpha/transparency layers. And about giving colours specific names: This is possible, but currently missing in Nabla, would be a good test to see if Affinity can pick them up.

@mwichary Thank you! Some beautiful examples. Always love the vibrancy of some of those old machines. And of course some good clunky switches!

@DanMorgan@vmst.io @glennf@twit.social Mostly though other books or posters, after which I delved further and took notes: Whenever I found a book with a special feel or right texture/paper weight, I immediately flipped to the colophon where (quite often, as is the case in designer-books) the paper was listed, which got me a list of preferred types. For the rest it was a lot of finding out and visiting printers when you are producing print work: they always have some great stuff in their showcase libraries.
