Pretty much the explicit message of the show was "America has done, is doing, and will continue to do despicable things, but it's still fundamentally good and worth fighting for, and the people trying to change things are well-meaning but dangerous fanatics who shouldn't be trusted and will probably do more harm than good"
Patriotism in media isn't usually the "America fuck yeah" kind anymore. No one buys that these days. It's more often the insidious kind like this.
If a trans person is upset and venting about transphobia they saw or experienced, that is not your call to come to the other person's defense or rationalize the behavior in question.
Every time we complain about being mistreated or misgendered, cis "allies" materialize to inform us that maybe we misunderstood or maybe it wasn't so bad, and it's extremely unhelpful and thoughtless
Maybe show some grace to the trans people in your life

And it needs to be noted that there are a non-negligible number of socially conservative socialists/communists, I don't know how numerous they are but they exist, who would be happy to abandon trans people if they perceived permission
It sucks that I can't be too excited about Orban's defeat because it seems to be a package deal with pro-EU and NATO liberal fascism
At some point we really need to talk about the weak spot many leftists/socialists clearly have for ops by Christian conservative anti-pornography and sex work activists

I grew up among white Midwestern conservatives. However evil and cruel you think these people are, you're likely underestimating it if you haven't lived among them. The things they say when they think they have a friendly audience or after a couple of drinks would make Trump tell them to dial it in a little.
Had a tiny bit of wine and now my body is making sure I know how bad of an idea that was
I've observed a lot of ableism coming from PSL members over the years, including from top figures, and one thing that's disappointed me about the statements I've seen from people leaving is that none of them are really discussing it. It doesn't seem controversial to them even now.
