I recently re-read Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Dispossessed" and confirmed that it is still my favorite book. 😀 Two quotes I wrote down while reading because they deal with challenges I have in my daily anarchist life: "To break a promise is to deny the reality of the past; therefore it is to deny the hope of a real future." Heute habe ich die Gustav Landauer Ausstellung im Anti-Kriegsmuseum in Berlin besucht. Es ist eine Lese-Ausstellung, die ganz gut strukturiert ist: chronologische Abfolge aber auch Themenschwerpunkte zwischen Kultur, Praxis und Inhaltlichem.

Spannend fand ich zum Beispiel die These "das Zauberwort ist nicht Streik, sondern Arbeit" mit dem Landauer einen Gegenpol zu reinem "Klassenkampf" gesetzt hat und mehr für Aufbau von anarchistischer Infrastruktur geworben hat.

I read another text by Cello Latini Pfeil. This one is about the intersection of trans liberation and #anarchism. Pfeil claims that both movements strive for self-determination (of the individual and the collective). And both are in opposition to norms and institutions that naturalize these norms. One of these norms is that of cisgenderity. Pfeil uses the term cisgenderity to not only to name the norm but also to describe the social and institutional structures and practices through which people are positioned within systems of gender. Yesterday at #ASN9 I learned about Agnotology, the study of deliberate, culturally cultivated ignorance or doubt, typically to sell a product, influence opinion, or win favor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnotology @jessecohn@mas.to mentioned the term and compared it to DDoS attacks on knowledge. Jesse also identified missing trust as one of the central problems and said that we anarchists can work on slowly building trust. #anarchism

Der Artikel ruft dazu auf, mehr anarchistische Buchmessen mit strömungsübergreifendem Anspruch und freundliche Offenheit für Diversität, Interessierte und Nachbarschaft zu organisieren.

Was meint ihr? Wären mehr Anarchistische Buchmessen im deutschsprachigen Raum gut?

Dafür, dass im Vorfeld so viel Gruseliges aus der Orga-Gruppe berichtet wurde, war es gar nicht so schlimm. Die Autoritären waren nicht viele und konnten meiner Beobachtung nach den Charakter der Demo nicht wesentlich bestimmen. Und über das Schild haben sich auch einige gefreut. #DykeMarch

@zygmyd yes, I've seen that when researching and I'm very much in favor of skepticism as well. The key thing is that it's the RC version of Co-Counselling that has these roots, not the CCI version I'm writing about. In my article, I have a paragraph that warns about dangerous related practices. I did not include Dianetics in this paragraph as this is 2 links away and I had a character limit for the original article. But you are right, it might be worth including a sentence about that in the online version of the article now.

@mzaman@todon.nl you are right, characteristics like intangible issues, uncertainty, affected beings not present can also apply to questions not related to future needs. I think an additional characteristic when discussing questions related to needs is that this tends to get more emotional than other topics because the idea of not having important needs met evokes existential fears and feelings of not being accepted as a being. So this, combined with the three characteristics you mentioned which get more challenging the further into the future we look, might make future needs topics especially challenging. I do think anarchist ideas are a good way to address questions of future needs, not only because we can change decisions as you wrote, but also because of decentralization. IMO it is still worth thinking about more concrete ways to facilitate discussions about future needs. I liked your idea of defining acceptable risk levels first. I think people might even want to form decentralized groups depending on the risk levels they are comfortable with.

@mzaman@todon.nl thanks for the first constructive answer on this question. I agree with all the points you made. However, I think that there are some special challenges with future needs:

how reliable are the predictions? (people might accuse each other of being overly cautious or too reckless)
the discussion is more indirect (it's not "people with their current needs talking to each other" but "people thinking about their future needs and advocating for them". This is kind of representation of a future version of yourself, and representation can have issues. It can lead to polarization and more difficulties in finding common ground. Solutions probably need to involve both research/predictions, structured argumentation, as well as moderated discussions about needs.
