We're proposing a few updates to our contribution policy regarding AI-generated contributions. Visit the PR here: https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/tenacity/pulls/713. Feedback is appreciated!

TL;DR: We're moving towards a more absolute stance against AI-generated contributions, along with (hopefully) making it clearer and providing better justifications for our stance.

Not too long ago, we discovered there was a fake "mirror" of #Tenacity to #SourceForge. As of today, it looks like SourceForge took it down, along with the account impersonating @gperson@social.linux.pizza.

For now, we have no plans regarding SourceForge, except for the possibility of creating a legitimate redirect to prevent this from ever happening again. We are still debating that, however.

Hey everyone! @gperson@social.linux.pizza here with a few things. First, I now have a new laptop, so I'll be able to do many more things with #Tenacity now. Second off, some things are moving recently, so baring university classes, you may see a little more activity on Tenacity.

Thanks again for everyone's support! We have a bit of a backlog of work to address, so we'll try to work on that while also getting releases of Tenacity, libid3tag, and even libmad out.

Hey everyone! We'd like to share this issue with you: https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/tenacity/issues/704

This is potentially about dropping our #AppImage (again) because unfortunately it's been riddled with quite a few issues, instead keeping our #Flatpak. (This will likely not be the case for the upcoming 1.3.5 release though).

Please feel free to share your thoughts. We're interested to see what people are going to think and how we can proceed on this (if we should proceed).

[META] Discontinue AppImage bundle in favor of Flatpak

AppImage as a format requires tons of re-implementations to get basic things to work, such as a mechanism to update and desktop integration, both of which were already standardized for a while. Today's random idea: start an official XMPP chatroom.

What do you think? 🤔

Hey everyone! It's been a little bit since our last post, so we'll detail what's happening here!

Unfortunately, we don't have a whole lot to report, but we have been readying a new release of #libmad. The last thing we have will be for source packaging via CPack as we will now start providing our own source tarballs.

Once we get libmad 0.16.5 released and in #vcpkg, we'll get going on #Tenacity 1.3.5, which will feature updated dependencies mainly. That also means we'll update our Flatpak too!

Pretty soon, with a vcpkg update (for our fork, that is), Tenacity will be able to use ASIO support! Here's the PR to update our PortAudio overlay: https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/vcpkg/pulls/5

If we upstream our WASAPI loopback patch for PortAudio too, then it's possible we end up dropping our PortAudio port entirely. Either that or we continue to wait for PortAudio 19.8 (in which case our port overlay will be dropped entirely).

Looks like we may finally be onto something with undockable toolbars under #Wayland: https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/tenacity/pulls/707.

We only fixed the indicator right now, but it's one step in the right direction. A very small one, but a step nonetheless! 😄

@gperson@social.linux.pizza The reason we do not plan on distributing a universal binary for macOS is due to limitations in vcpkg, at least when we last checked. We would instead distribute separate Intel and macOS binaries instead. The only official ones we have are here: https://nightly.link/tenacityteam/tenacity/workflows/cmake_build/1.3 Even then, they may not work.

What we plan to do with the commits from upstream depends on what user reception is to them. That's main for nightly users at the moment, however, but we still depend on your feedback to drive Tenacity's direction. Anyways, that's all for now. We'll come back if we have more things to say! 😄

Is it true that the last of the E-AC3 (Dolby Digital Plus) patents have expired? That would be great news to hear...for reasons 👀

So...looks like our preference migration code in the latest nightly build was broken all along, all because we excluded 1.3.x from the code that was supposed to migrate 1.3.x preferences in 1.4. How? Using '<' instead of '<=' (the wrong operator) 💀.

Well, that's why 1.4 is in alpha, and luckily, we already have the fix prepared in this PR: https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/tenacity/pulls/702

As a friendly reminder, please remember to backup your settings before trying the latest nightly build or 1.4 alpha 1!

Tenacity's contributions themselves have been licensed under GPL 2 or later (unless otherwise specified), so our contributions aren't an issue. It's mostly whether we can license an older, pre Audacity-3.2 codebase under GPL v3 or later or not.

Unfortunately, nightly builds have been again broken since some while ago, but luckily it appears to be on the packaging end of things. Hopefully this should be easy to fix when we get the time for it, but for now, stay tuned!

P.S. If there's anything that's missing or wrong, please let us know. I am a little tired right now, and making a release while you're tired isn't always the best idea 😅

The main reason at this point is for ASIO support (the ASIO SDK is licensed under GPL v3), so we would need to allow for license upgrades. The previous justification would be for VST 3 support, albeit now the VST 3 SDK is licensed under MIT and thus we no longer need to worry about licensing for that SDK.

@arturo2bodegas Per Flathub's statistics, there have been 108,872 installs (we presume this has been over time, but we're not sure) compared 10,657 downloads from Codeberg of the AppImage (of 1.3.4). This may be a misleading statistic to compare against, but it's what there is (maybe we can get a more accurate comparison somehow).

@tiredhorizon@mstdn.social To our knowledge, Tenacity was never available in Fedora's official repos or anything, but it is available as a Flatpak from Flathub. You can still install Tenacity as a Flatpak if desired.
