It's a great time for open source in Europe and I'm excited about the opportunity to make sure we Europeans efficiently leverage the open source global commons.
Not a joke, today is the release day for OpenStack 2026.1 (codename "Gazpacho"), for which I humbly contributed as one of the release managers.
Great to see an increase in the number of contributors (and the number of contributions!) during this development cycle, resulting in exciting new features.

🇪🇺 Cyber Resilience Act: what now?
Excited to announce that next week I'll be hosting a live discussion on this topic with @allison@muon.social, @mmilinkov@mastodon.opencloud.lu from Eclipse and Ciarán O'Riordan from @OpenForumEurope@mastodon.cloud !
Mark your calendars! It's happening Thursday, Aug 24 at 14:00 UTC / 9am CT.
Permissionless innovation, powered by Open Source Software, creates a ton of value. We should defend it.
In this research paper, demand-side value of widely-used OSS is estimated at $8.8 trillion.
Firms would need to spend 3.5 times more on software than they currently do if OSS did not exist.
Also interesting: 96% of that value is created by only 5% of OSS developers.
The @lfeurope@mastodon.social response to the European Commission's Open Digital Ecosystems consultation outlines the importance of leveraging the existing open source global commons, while highlighting the role of open governance in achieving true #DigitalSovereignty .
@OpenInfra@social.openinfra.dev is fully aligned with that vision. Read more at:
RE: @linuxfoundation@social.lfx.dev
There can be no digital sovereignty without local skills. Looking at the state of tech talent in Europe is therefore critical. The report is out !
