One more shirt from FWA out today.
It is way too god damn hot for May already.
Oh and search? Okay I’ll be real. Google fucking sucks these days. There might be some judgement there. Again you have solid options these days. Personally I pay for Kagi and I think it’s insanely worth it for quality search. DuckDuckGo is great for a free option. There are plenty others!
The pollen persists but so will I.
Work from home shirt choice.
Not a bad way to end the day.

@Gargron@mastodon.social .. I had not seen Zulip before. Thank you for putting it on my radar. 👀
Friday night sorted.
For those not keen on Apple stuff, I’m gonna highly recommend Proton. Nextcloud is another solid option if you wanna self host. These are just ones I know off the top of my head. There are plenty of other great options out there. There’s no need to stick with Google if you don’t want to.
One thing I’ll note is that personally, I’m probably never gonna forget that Brave (browser and search) exist because a homophobe got chased out of running Mozilla. It will forever be the homophobe’s browser to me. I already don’t like that Kagi includes them in their index pool.
Well fuck that was great. But I did tear up a couple times. ☠️

Time to hurt myself.
Continuing on from earlier. I get not being thrilled seeing anyone take money from Anthropic. But singling out Blender when you didn't bat an eye at the Linux Foundation, or Apache, or anyone else feels..shitty. If anything let Anthropic funnel its money into things with actual value before it dies.
You’ve got so many options out there. If you don’t like the future Google is essentially forcing on you, you really can just leave.

Sony held out long enough to make MS look bad I suppose. https://www.theverge.com/games/902224/sony-ps5-playstation-price-hike
No wonder Sony is axing their PC ports. They realize how close they're getting to PC prices. Especially if you're going for a PS5 Pro.
Browser? Personally I mostly use Safari and Vivaldi these days. Vivaldi’s based on Chromium, but is ran by a small user focused company. Firefox is a solid option, though like Chrome, you have forks to consider too potentially like Waterfox and Librewolf. I could rant about Mozilla but let’s not.
If you’re already heavily in on Apple hardware, honestly, you’ve got some great options right away to pivot to. iCloud has solid mail, calendar, cloud storage, etc. iWork gives you your office stuff. Passwords app handles that stuff great. All of these except Passwords has easy web versions too!
That being said, I’ll drop one more note that I think bears mention. If you genuinely like what you’re using, and have no qualms about the company running it. Honestly, great. Keep at it. Just because you have a ton of folks pointing out your options and alternatives doesn’t mean you need to change.
I’d highly recommend checking out the podcast as is. It’s basically a contemporary retelling of Lovecraft stories, via audio drama/investigative podcast. It makes for a really fun listen and fresh spin on these.

@sequentialsnep I'm a big 8bitdo fan but I am frothing at the mouth over the new Steam Controller. The original had so much promise and they delivered on the Steam Deck. This is basically that as a controller and I have a mighty need.

@soulfire@sharkey.jarexibackblaze.xyz which I can sorta get, but I really can't fault them for turning down a massive chunk of change with zero demands.

@niccolove I think the only valid concern really is don't count on that being there every year when this bubble finally pops.
But otherwise, it's a lot easier to judge a project for taking money with zero strings attached than it is to pony up 240K yourself I guess. 🤷♂️

@dmian@mastodon.social I too had bookmarked this to see what other options folks were mentioning. Though personally I think the vibes are really off with Stoat. I don't think a one to one recreation of Discord is where I'd wanna go either.

@Iconfactory@iconfactory.world proud backer and we still pay for it because my husband loves it too. (Oddly his preferred way to read posts from Reddit.)
A while back Civics 101 did an episode on the US president and the price of gas, and largely how there really isn't THAT much a president can do to change the prices at the pump. They felt the need to amend that slightly. I can't say I blame them. https://www.civics101podcast.org

@yesjohn I will have to hope you open again sooner than three years. I've gotta see how destructive this week is to my wallet first. :targrus_sob:

@Gargron@mastodon.social thank for for everything you've done, and for the pressure and criticism you've had to put up with. You handled it better than most imagine they would I suspect.
Okay seriously there's a plague of "Gaza" scammers on Bluesky right now.

RE: @BasicAppleGuy@mastodon.social
Seriously. This and the all screening both have been game changers for me.
Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers is now half way over, and all I can say is I really wish I thought it was good. Like I wanted to be very hyped for a revival of a show I really enjoyed. But it really doesn't have much going for it beyond nostalgia bait for me, and I need more than that.
The writing, rushed to the point of incoherence. Treatment of characters? Rushed and willing to throw characters into a meatgrinder to meet those deadlines.
