It feels strange to start blogging again in this age of wonderful stories hallucinated by AI. But I do it anyway at https://sardinias.blogspot.com

"Watching those who pretend to be religious carry out the most wretched actions against others for power or money is enough to make me start thinking seriously about souls, something I haven’t done until now."
"It’s especially stark and shocking to see how much of this palpable evil comes from people who claim to be God-fearing."

Many CEOs of the big tech companies are Indian origin: Microsoft, Google, IBM, etc. What happens if they move to India and lead successful tech companies there? We would have more healthy competition in this space instead of our total dependency on American techs.
Wow the oil and gas prices shot up and the whole world suffers because the Americans started an unprovoked war against Iran.
The RAM prices went up and the whole world suffers because the American AI companies snapped all production until 2030.
Is there a bigger threat to the world than them?

I have zero knowledge of machine learning.
Today I managed to create the speech recognition model for an under-resourced language Nias with the help of Gemini.
I was amazed that the model manages WER rate of 30%!
This is encouraging. I'm thinking to create an Android app with built in Nias speech recognition!

A wonderful story about the beginning of the Linux kernel, that makes you appreciate this collective effort which is a wonder in itself.

I used it once and found it good. However the non-intuitive Interface (which is common to GNOME apps) makes me abandon it. I know it's not developer's fault, because those non-intuitive Interface is the GNOME guideline and they expressly say not to theme it or make it more humane, as Ubuntu used to do. It pains me to say this as an Ubuntu user.

Is this the time the plumbers get the recognition they deserve? A plumber won a by-election in the UK and became an MP. And in the US Trump has appointed another plumber to become the head of DHS!
How come my email was given as the recovery email by a company I don't know?
Either Google or that company messed up.
Set trusted news source preferences.
With so much AI slops, dis- and mis-information around at the moment, when we can't even trust what a president says, here how to set preferred news source in the Google Seach:
1. From the search page click on your profile picture
2. Select Search personalisation
3. Select Source preferences
4. Enter the name of the preferred websites in the input field, for example theguardian.com, bbc.com, etc.
5. Hit Enter. That's it.
The headline in my news feed today that hurts.
It's been 10 years since Brexit. Luckily no argument between friends anymore. Everybody agrees it was a mistake. But the consequences are still impacting our lives.

The US makes huge headlines every day. Today it was a threat to the Pope.
It makes me think, is the US suffering from mass insanity similar to mass hysteria? Where good is now bad and bad is good; when honesty is now bad and corruption is good; when love for our neighbours is now bad and cruelty is good.
I think the Pope needs to send a few dozens of exorcists to cast out the demons and bring people back to reality.
I went to a pub with a friend last night. He's also a software engineer. While in the pub he opened his laptop a few times and did something. The guy in his team who was on duty was overwhelmed with reports of bugs in their application.
I don't know whether it is related, but he also told me that his company has recently started to force them to use the AI for coding.

"We don't know how long we have left before A.I. companies accidentally create the sort of A.I. that can shut us down before we shut it down." (Nate Soares, Medicine Intelligence Research Institute)
Critical institutions should be prepared for this and create a system they can switch to in no time in case the AI hacks its IT system or the internet is shut down.

What is intelligence and consciousness? I'm not a philosopher but have followed the debate recently with interest.
Of course it's only a computer, LLM or agents.
But the fact that AI has "tricked" so many people in an intimate relationship i.e. trust is really an "artificial" intelligence. The AI is better at building trust in those customers than average people with "biological" intelligence.
So does it matter whether it's "artificial" or "biological"? From a consumers perspective not! 😲

Has someone had luck running AntiGravity IDE on ARM Chromebook Plus with Mediathek Kompanio Ultra 910? After days I get AntiGravity IDE running on the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, however it can't find my device, although adb devices finds it.
"The architecture of South Nias is among the most extraordinary artistic achievements in all of Southeast Asia. Nowhere else in Indonesia are the buildings as elaborate, large and structurally audacious as in Nias" (J. Feldman, "Transgressions in the House of the Chief", p. 57)
As someone from South Nias I'm flustered.
