#bikepacking trip, day #13. A beautiful day, mostly spent at over 800 meters above sea level and interrupted by a two hour sauna and dip in a lake session. #bikepacking trip, day #15. We got off the ferry in Hirtshals and headed southwards towards Aalborg through the Danish countryside (with a tailwind for once!). After lunch we veered towards the east coast and slept in one of the shelters close to Dokkedal. 127 km. #denmark #danmark #aalborg #velo

#bikepacking trip, day #10. We took the climb via Gaustabanen out of Rjukan, which we were glad to do early in the morning and mostly in the shade (36°C were forecast in the valley that evening). After a short peek from Gaustatoppen we continued to Sauland and from there a bit further, finally camping on a small island on a lake. 68 km. #cycling #norway #norge #gaustabanen #gaustatoppen

#bikepacking trip, day #14. We took the morning ferry from Lysenbotn to Lauvvika and then cycled to Stavanger, where we explore the city a bit before boarding the ferry to Hirtshals. 64 km. #cycling #norway #norge #stavanger

#bikepacking trip, day #4. After wild camping on an island in the Dynekilen fjord, we once again set up heading north. We left Sweden and entered Norway, keeping relatively close to the coast. The highlight of the day was the section immediately after Frederikstad, with the fjord, patches of forest and relatively low traffic. 96 km. #cycling #sweden #norway #sverige #norge

#bikepacking trip, day #9. We descended from the plateau to Rjukan, the final hairpins proving quite challenging due to the loose rocks and steepness. After camping we took a bus to Vemork museum and hitchhiked back. 56 km. #cycling #norway #norge #rjukan #vemork #hitchhiking

#bikepacking trip, day #11. We left the lake in a hurry due to all the mosquitos that gathered around and descended for breakfast in Seljord. The best parts today were cycling around the various lakes and stopping for a dip in one of them. We finished the day in Dalen. 95 km. #cycling #norway #norge

#bikepacking trip, day #17. We rolled into Aarhus after one last night in the tent, where we had breakfast and lunch and enjoyed the city until it was time to take the ferry to Zealand. Some more cycling and another ferry and we reached Frederikssund, from where we hopped on a local train to Copenhagen. 86 km. #cycling #velo #aarhus #frederikssund #copenhagen #kobenhavn

#bikepacking trip, day #16. We slept surprisingly well in the shelter, maybe too well given that we woke up a bit before 11, so we only started cycling around noon. We kept the same direction but left the coast, passing through Randers and finally camping just a bit before Aarhus. 99 km. #denmark #danmark #randers #aarhus

In total we cycled 1413 km over 16 full days of cycling, with 15900 meters of uphill. Spent 10 nights wild camping, 3 in camping places and 3 in hotels. The weather was much better than expected - it only briefly rained on 2 days and even those were nice and sunny. We definitely didn't expect to be so warm (almost like in southern France last summer), but I'll take that over rain every day any time.

#bikepacking trip, day #7. We packed the tent and headed westwards, but unfortunately at some point I managed to lose one of the fork packs, probably on some of the gravel descents early in the day. Retracing my path backwards didn't help, but luckily it didn't contain anything hard to replace. Managed to end the day with a dip. 134km. #cycling #norway #norge

#bikepacking trip, day #5. Short day, we just continued along the coast until we reached Oslo. As every time we're in Oslo we stopped at Håndbakt for some cardamom buns. Maybe the first day where we felt that it got a bit too warm (but still a long way to go to the 38°C we experienced last year in southern France). 64 km. #cycling #norway #norge #oslo

#bikepacking trip, day #2. We followed the Swedish coast north, sometimes next to boring stretches of highway, otherwise on nice secondary roads. There was a headwind all day and a few short showers on an otherwise nice but cold summer day. 101 km. #cycling #sweden

#bikepacking trip, day #8. We left quite early and descended to Austbygde, from where we headed towards Kalhovdfjorden. After climbing for 30 km we finally reached it and set up the tent (after grabbing a beer at the DNT hut). 96 km. #cycling #norway #norge #dnt

#bikepacking trip, day #6. We left Oslo and tried to stay away from the tarmac by going through Vestmarka and Finnemarka. Encountered the first more serious climbs and dogged the thunderstorm by quickly installing the tent next to a lake. The only downside was that we didn't manage to see the Norway - England game. 46 km.
