in re this week's #monsterdon, Variety wrote, "'Silver Bullet' is a Stephen King filmette from his scriptette from his novelette which may sell some tickettes but not without regrettes ... the kids have a silver bullet, the only known power that will stop a werewolf. Unfortunately, there's no known power that will stop films like this." *wikipedia
i feel like disney's hercules is largely homage to hercules in new york. you got the short "hey herc" sidekick, you got the cosmopolitan sorta girlfriend, you got the shithead hades, you got the kinda slow but very polite hercules, you got the dumbass henchmen.
there are certainly differences, but honestly. it's at least 60% the same movie in flavour. #monsterdon
if your mastodon instance is run by a white guy named chad you probably want to relocate. not sub-tooting about any specific situation... just... as a guideline
ambush predator on my desk, razor sharp snag claws, instinctive disemboweling kick, light intensifying night vision, audio sensors on independent swivels, paw tufts and soft pads providing silent movement, ultra flexible spine and joints, capable of jumping ten times its height
getting noogied and going "mrrrrp?"
using a 3d printer to create a new cat-litter-on-the-floor targeted nozzle for the dyson vacuum. as one does.
it's been 53 years since we last sent humans towards the moon. i hope they come back ok.
tonight, i'm making waffles. quinoa and millet flour this time. nutty, rich.
the joy(?) of asking clod to look over ten lines of code and have it respond with a cs101 student essay that tut-tuts a strange loop structure and proposes a fix that breaks functionality, and when called on it comes up with another essay that eats crow in the subtlest way possible: "The original loop logic was correct; it just needed the empty-data case to be thought through rather than patched."
yeah, you get a 70 on that, see me at office hours
just when i finished the morning work task and am ready to head out on an errand -- BAM loudly purring cat in my lap, full of fur and ready for love
wee creatures are wonderful, and smart, and communicate in depth if only we listen well
a tiny bird landed on the windowsill and made fluttering noises
greg shortly trotted in, looked at me and made a questioning sound, like, "did you hear it? what was that?"
i looked at her and said "it wasn't me" and then looked at the windowsill
she ran over there and jumped up, and likely scared the bird away, and then made a sound that was clearly "dammit"
it's ok to take a moment to breathe and, if one is available, to pet a cat. it helps!
Debugging rpc between two microcontrollers is a pain in the butt.
kids these days. is their education being neglected? do they even know about "hassan chop"
amazon Got Big Mad at aliexpress etc, and now has "Amazon Haul" which is clearly just an aggregation warehouse in china using their own fulfillment network
in retrospect it's bizarre it's taken them this long
so many times the question "why doesn't this thing fucking work" is answered by "the usb cable only provides power, not data" and it really irks me that power-only cables are not clearly marked
I am told the call letters WKRP have finally been purchased, at long last, by a radio station in Cincinnati.
kind of hate ttc line 5. it's not a subway, it's a streetcar in a tube, sometimes. should have called it 5xx something.
i was coming back from wilson and thought, oh, i'll just bridge over on line 5 to get to wellesley faster than going around the line 1 bend. i am pretty sure it was slower. and involved multiple level changes including a broken escalator (when i was toting a lot of shopping in a cart).
i'm sure it's nice for some purposes, but not that one.
tonight's feature: half a loaf of kung-fu, an early jackie chan vehicle
the remarkable puzzle of "where is the cheap ir camera" ok it's with the jewelers loupes and component tester. that makes a certain amount of sense.
tfw you'd rather code golf a library to absolute perfection than use it, slightly wonky, for its purpose
[ cigarettes are banned almost every workplace ]
[ skyrocketing adult autism / adhd diagnoses ]
correlation or causation
i guess a good tell would be in societies where adults are still allowed to smoke at work, do the autism/adhd numbers still go up as much
probably a masters thesis in it no matter the answer
a = []
b = a.append
b(1)
print(a)
VOODOO
i did not know python did this invisible binding thing. that needs to settle in my brain a bit. most other languages that would not compile or would barf at runtime.
why does it keep saying read more when there's no more to read. seems broken.
Tfw transit is quicker to a store twice as far away as the preferred nearby location.
that 2% of humans with sociopathy ruin things for the other 98% who just want to fucking get along or be left alone
perhaps this is how homo sapiens conquered the neanderthals -- we got a recessive sociopathy mutation -- and now as a species we're toxic to all life forms including ourselves
did you know the AI-driven storage crush has gotten so fucking bad that even spinning rust hard drives are surging in price. It's fucking outrageous.
And what will fight the giant frog? A Jaeger named Mozilla that fights with a giant quarterstaff, piloted by drift-compatible, separated-at-birth, and not-yet-reconciled twins Esau and Isaac.
@woozle@toot.cat do you have any idea why i am seeing read more > prompts below every post, even ones that are short?
