Tablet weaving is never in vein.
About a year ago, I designed this "tree of life" pattern, but when I wove it, it didn’t really appeal as a belt.
My friend Iris realized that the tree is just the right size for a cell phone pouch and now I’ve finally decided to see how it comes together.
Sewing leather is one of my favorite things to do after tablet-weaving, and it was nice to get to sew this vegetable-tanned reindeer leather.
I like that the stitching looks handmade rather than machine-made.

The old symbol is told to be for protection and good luck, and according to one interpretation, the four loops on the symbol depict the spirits of the four cardinal directions, which support the heaven above the earth. (taivaannaula.org)

The symbol is known in Finland/Karelia as Siivilänpesonen, but I also found the same symbol in old Ukrainian folk art, where it is called Krynytsia (Well).
The meaning to the symbol is told to be:
The well, marked by crossed diagonal lines, symbolizes the link between worlds - like a real well that draws not just water, but ancestral memory. Alongside it, the fertility rune invokes abundance and continuity of life.
