@707Kat @jpoesen I would love to volunteer to help people in this way. The problem is a lack of demand. I don't hear about a lot of people who aren't already technically savvy about this stuff who are interested in moving away from big tech. Usually the reaction I see is "why would I care about that?"

Group associations are a core of how we interact. We’re prone to accepting or dismissing things based on associations. Historically, we also tend to kill each other based on group associations. One way to short-circuit this is to take the old advice, reword it, and neglect to mention its origin.

@cmconseils@mastodon.social I dropped out of art school twenty-ish years ago. At some point between grade school and art school, I started to always hate my art. After dropping out of art school, I pivoted hard into non-artistic things. Over the next twenty years, I spent less and less time making art. In the last year or two, I started painting again. And this time around, I adopted this outlook; that the simple act of creation is the good part. I like making art again, for the first time in decades.

@adx @mttaggart I have to admit, I have started quoting "thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of the human mind" way more than I did in the previous decade.

@Amorpheus@kind.social @cmconseils@mastodon.social That wasn't it for me. For me, the issue was that the art I saw in my head was always much better than I was capable of producing. The gap got better over time, but not fast enough for me. This was exacerbated by seeing people younger than me producing works much better than I was capable of. Dropping out of art school was directly caused by an argument with an instructor, but I think that was only the catalyst, not the real source. My career has been plenty fun!
