@FluffyDeveloper@meow.social yeah for now, I am hoping in the future other instances will block this behavior much like we do here. I don't dislike AT though I like activitypub better. the main feature I like of AT is better idenity handling and I think Activitypub should take notes

@FluffyDeveloper@meow.social that's debatable I have been on there and there is two camps, OMG this is so much better than mastodon, and the part that has been victims of racism on the platform

@ErinInTheMorn@mstdn.social this is all very concerning, and I am really hoping to trend we kinda saw last year we’re the worst bills died in comitee repeats but I think we will need massive protest if we want that the happen.

@brianhough@mastodon.social @Rairii@haqueers.com @rant@mas.to @taylorlorenz@mastodon.social @esqueer@mastodon.social apple tried to force discord to ban porn. The comprimise was made where nsfw could be enabled but with toggle on the desktop app, the the toggle couldn’t be referenced in the app. So when your encounter it it says “NSFW content is blocked on iOS” with zero context. But you can enabled by clicking the enable nsfw content on iOS toggle on the desktop app

@lowqualityfacts@mstdn.social I feel like bsky in all honestly is fine... my issues are it is still backed by a company, but I do think AT Proto will be interesting once third party software is built around it

@duco @AmyZenunim as we have seen with other websites people almost always think of mastoodj as an HOA who will get mad if you don't content warn a post saying I'm cold with cw weather

@AmyZenunim since they have decided to federate with Meta, lets fedi block mastodon.social

@FluffyDeveloper@meow.social I get this AI nonsense can still exist, but honestly there is likely some AI scrapper trying to get data from fedi while pretending to be a real instance

@FluffyDeveloper@meow.social they are testing federation in a sandbox at the moment. I am guessing it will come somepoint this year. Keep in mind it took mastodon a bit to add federation

@Rairii@haqueers.com @rant@mas.to @brianhough@mastodon.social @taylorlorenz@mastodon.social @esqueer@mastodon.social apple did remove it until it banned porn, but only after the media dropped a moral panic article on Tunlvr, let’s just say Exdus cry really made a media storm and threatened FOSTA lawsuits. Generally tumblr was smeared and pushed until they banned porn

@anoosh@mastodon.social @esqueer@mastodon.social yeah my general advice is if your going to use mastodon professionally maybe look at managed hosting for now. There was a few sites which will spin up an instance for you. It will get better just might take system admins a bit to catch up

@fiercemilder@mastodon.ie like when you look at social media now a days. It’s all just a TikTok clone with a slightly different UI. We kinda struck gold years ago. I think any company could clone Mastodon but it’s federation that matters in mastodons case. Which eliminating that at some point would kill off that platform really quickly.

@fiercemilder@mastodon.ie I think when messaging apps were still maturing, it was much easier to do this, since at that point no one fully knew what they wanted. Also adding a reccmenations algorithm/trending would likely turn googles instance into twitter.

@fiercemilder@mastodon.ie it’s also another thing to note YouTube isn’t really the best platform anymore, everything Google rush other than classroom is absolutely terrible. YouTube legit ensures when you search trans, trans women or anything lgbt you get Matt Walsh or some daily wire shithead

@fiercemilder@mastodon.ie my honest take on it is maybe 5 or 6 years ago this could of happpened but I think now we are pretty safe. The biggest reason I say this is while they could add centeralized features like verifications, a discover algorithm and more. I overall think most Mastodon client have a solid user experience, and on top of that I feel like there isn’t a ton of features they could add

@FluffyDeveloper@meow.social like mastodon is not new by any means and has existed for a good while now

@rant@mas.to @brianhough@mastodon.social @Rairii@haqueers.com @taylorlorenz@mastodon.social @esqueer@mastodon.social in reality without sideloading giving apple keys to content moderation would just result in porn being banned. Really should consult with sex workers like ashley lake who is all too familiar with apples anti porn polices.

@rant@mas.to also I doubt this will happen given Truth Social and Parlor are both on the appstore. Generally It is always conflicting cause like while I do think some of these sites need to crash and burn, the idea of having corprate gate keepers to censor what they don't like online is a liberal view, and not a leftist one, like I also do worry given mastodon is not immune to the appstore, it one of the few points users cannot directly control

@rant@mas.to I considered switching to android, but kept running into the issue where sandboxing is not exactly great, and apps like Facebook user lesser documented functions to listen to microphone and camera, or look at background apps even if you do not grant permissions for it

@rant@mas.to even Google has admitted to using accsesablity functions on android to look at things users did not give it permissions for

@rant@mas.to iOS is more limited, but also lacks these random apis that make this possible meaning that when I say no it really does mean no to these apps

@crowgirl@hachyderm.io I wonder if old twitter would of helped anti abortion people too, *sigh. I just hate big tech so much, and it's really awful that most people are not educated about E2EE. Keep in mind your hsotijg provider could ram dump your mastodon instance, backup the drive, decrypt it and send it to the state gov.

@rant@mas.to @brianhough@mastodon.social @Rairii@haqueers.com @taylorlorenz@mastodon.social @esqueer@mastodon.social if you have apple that authority, they would just ban twitter and reddit for allowing NSFW content. putting apple at the head of conent moderation is bad. also apple isnt exactly non consertive eaither, it blocked queer content when using parental controls at one point

@rant@mas.to it's like centeralized social media was a mistake and centralized appstores were a mistake.

@esqueer@mastodon.social it almost never is, Section 230 something conservative hate on 24/7 would legitimately just lead to more censorship of queer people and baseless lawsuits from anti queer lawfirm trolls suing random mastodon instances that can't legally defend themselves.

@FluffyDeveloper@meow.social I joined honestly just to follow activist, but yeah the centeralized stuff is annyoing. I honestly want to see what federation will bring.

@FluffyDeveloper@meow.social yeah 100%, also keep in mind bsky is backed by the same tech bros who backed Twitter and Nostr
