Still a bit early for this subject, but had a night of decent seeing last night, and with the full moon there ain't many bright emission nebulae to aim for with a narrowband filter; at least not in my field of view.
So here it is: a bit more than 2.5 hours of Caldwell 27 on May 1st...

Quick capture for my favorite subject from last night.
Since it's finally galaxy seasons moved the rig to the big tube.
It's a bit out of collimation, so fixed that tonight (hopefully); meanwhile software helped fixing the star shapes...

I'm always impressed by the fact that even in my terrible sky one can still take pictures like this. I wonder what I may be able to obtain from a decent location...

@mattblaze@federate.social @xenonchromatic@mastodon.social @jackcole@mstdn.social as a foreigner seeing all this from afar, my question to this is “whose attention, exactly?” ‘Cause what is going on within the ranks pretty much everywhere inside the federal government is IMO clear, at this point, to anyone who wants to see it, and has been for some time. I doubt “more signal” is going to change the perception of those who still decided this is all OK…

I'm just debating your point that those resignations are -per se- obtaining something, other than keeping those people's conscience clear of this crap. Which is fine, just probably irrelevant in the grand scheme.

The brightness of the background sky, joined by the sparse amount of stars in that part of the sky, makes autoguiding through an OAG difficult for this subject, so I decided to keep exposures relatively short (60s); the stack has 130 subs, left after removing another 50 in which the guiding stars were lost mid-shoot with the obvious consequences on the sub…

@derek my suggestion there would be to go for something relatively cheap and second hand, like a StarAdventurer GTi, and start shooting with just the camera. My first attempts (it’s just a couple of years ago 🤷‍♂️) took place with exactly that tracker, a Nikon5300 and a 180mm lens. Believe it or not, it’s *harder* than with the current gear in many aspects, but it’s a learning curve worth climbing. And you can always resell the tracker when you move to different gear.
