Gustave Roud Photography
Swiss poet who often used his images alongside his words.
In 1908, Roud's family moved to a farm inherited from his maternal grandfather. He would spend the rest of his life living there in relative solitude. His work was dedicated to landscapes of a lost paradise.

📚 2666 📚
Finished this MONSTER of a book last night as the sun was coming down ... struggling to read as I was losing my light - The perfect way to reach a conclusion that leaves the reader somewhat in the dark. Not that I'm complaining. Quite an adventure!
By Chilean born novelist, poet Roberto Bolaño - released posthumously in 2004, a year after his death at age 50.

Master Slave Husband Wife
The 2024 Pulitzer Prize winner for Biography by Ilyon Woo that tells the story of Ellen & William Craft + their escape from slavery in 1848 Georgia. Ellen, whose father was a white plantation owner was enslaved by her half sister, working as a seamstress + house servant. William, her husband, worked as a hired out carpenter for his master. Ellen who was extremely light skinned disguised herself as a wealthy southern planter while William portrayed her slave in order to make their escape. The 1st half of this book is a gripping tale - the 2nd half however looses the thread as Ellen + William travel to England - their story gets lost amid the politics + the stories of other abolitionist who help them on their journey.

Man From Mars
When record producer Larry Klein asked former wife Joni Mitchell to write a song for the 1995 film Grace of my Heart she refused. The movie, based on the a songwriter + aspiring singer in the mid 60s (think Carole King) required an innocence + vulnerability that Mitchell no longer felt she could offer.
Enter Nietzsche, Joni's cat, also known as Man From Mars ("he's a little lavender lion who looks like an alien + walks on his hind legs"). Nietzsche had peed all over a couple of chairs + so Joni said to him, “if you're going to act like an animal - you're going to live like an animal.”, grabbing him + kicking him outside. Well, he disappeared for 18 days. Night after night, Mitchell called him from her yard + waited. The song's sounds mimic what she heard: the rustling of leaves, bird songs, the drone from a distant freeway. , "It took me 17 days to write this song, + the night I finished it, my amazing little mancat appeared in a neighbor's yard "

Ground - a song by Chicago singer songwriter Diane Izzo came up on my random play and I began to wonder what had become of her. To my surprise I discovered she had passed away 15 years ago + her debut album 'One' was her only album! What a tragedy. It always makes me sad when talent remains forever undiscovered
