@verbraucherzentrale_sh Sehr schade, insbesondere weil dann Menschen wie ich von euren Ankündigungen ausgeschlossen sind, die sich bewusst gegen BigTech entschieden haben und versuchen dieses - aus guten Gründen wie ich finde - möglichst weitgehend aus ihrem Leben herauszuhalten. Leider ist das insbesondere bei der aktuellen politschen Lage in meiner Wahrnehmung ein sehr rückwärts gewandtes Signal.

Is there any prior art for migrating from one #database migration system to another one? Like for example between #seaorm, #diesel or #toasty, each of which brings their own migration tooling? I'm migrating a service which has not seen widespread use yet, and I'm uncertain how much work I should invest into providing smooth (=fully automated) migration path with SQL statements that contain difficult to build and understand conditions, vs. just writing a migration guide with manual steps.

@liw@toot.liw.fi Yes, after waiting for Debian Sarge felt like a very long time (in retrospective it's not, but everything feels like a long time when you're younger), the cadence has been pretty reliable which is an impressive achievement for what some people consider an uncoordinated crowd.

@mre@mastodon.social Thanks for this great collection of advice. One aspect that really resonates with me is the "don't guess" part. I frequently end up writing a unit test that ensures that some 3rd party code behaves in a way that it matches how I use it in my code. That prevents regressions when the 3rd party code changes behavior, and it documents the expectations instead of leaving others guessing.
