In most of the volunteer groups/spaces Im active in, we've transitioned to using Signal group chats instead of Facebook groups or messages - and it's so nice!
Switching to a different platform is tricky for some people though, and it has required us to support each other in learning the ropes 💚 but it helps that Signal is so much nicer to use - and keeps adding helpful features!
I spent a full day without my smartphone and now I feel super aware of the fact that it's basically just a distraction machine...
After #DanmarkSkifter, I've been reflecting on some of the ways I've shifted my digital habits - allowing myself to be more present in the moment and inclusive of people who are less digital.
Changes I've started in the past year:
-Using posters, zines or flyers instead of only content online
-Relying more on regular meeting times and word of mouth to grow groups
-Taking notes in a physical journal instead of on phone
-CDs and radio instead of streaming
-No phone zone in my bedroom
In my journey to stop using #Spotify, I started...
- listening to CDs (sometimes borrowed from the library)
- collecting mp3 files (shared between friends, sometimes in the form of playlists) and listening to them in a music player app on my phone
- getting to know nice online radio stations like radiofrance.fr/fip and #aarhus local community radio sydhavnsboelgen.dk
- using sites like tree.fm and whale.org/whale-acoustic-library/
What do you use for listening?

Did you know there will be a one-day festival celebrating plants in #Aarhus on saturday 14 June? 🌲🌻🍎
A ROOTED festival by @liene_jurgelane@mastodon.social , I will hold an open workshop... about plant food! You will use all your senses (sight, touch, smell, taste, and listening to the stories of the plants - sharing your stories in return.
Stop by my cauldron (around 14-16:00) to connect with the plants that nourish our bodies and have nourished so many generations on this land 🌱
May you eat something yummy today
May you give yourself some time and space today to get in tune with your desire
I just started learning about transformative justice! Its one of those ideas that seems to connect to so many of my experiences 💚
Unfortunately my feeling of urgency to learn about this now comes from my having recently been a bystander to some harmfully handled conflict in a community I love.
It left me feeling so hurt and disappointed and ashamed for not doing something. But also I can see others feeling the same, so I know we want and need community conflict practices...

I've decided to have one phone-free day per month around the full moon 🌝
The last time I did it, it felt like a good reset, to remember how it feels to be me without the distraction machine
Anyone else have routines like this that work well? I've also thought about phone-free time 8pm-8am, and my bed is a phone-free zone, but its quite hard to implement if I have the phone somewhat nearby...
Want to connect more with the plant world? I just wanted to share this course my dear friend @liene_jurgelane@mastodon.social is holding:
https://www.lienejurgelane.com/rootedallyship
Rooted Allyship: a hands-on, heart-open course to build meaningful relationships with the wild plants around you.
