It took 7 years of self-funded work, but Sonic Pi is finally at a place I'm happy with. It's even easier than beginners and even more powerful for pro users - and just way more polished in every way. It's also a (friendly) technical trojan horse for SuperSonic. https://www.patreon.com/samaaron/posts/sonic-pi-v5-1-164093369

Since announcing SuperSonic a few months ago I've made more than 50 releases and almost 700 commits.

SuperSonic is no longer just an experimental prototype. It's now a robust well-engineered, comprehensively tested web synthesiser.

I'm going to build such cool stuff with it and I hope you do too!

@mafe@layer8.space @ercanbrack@mastodon.online It's been a very tricky space predominantly because there's no such thing as "Linux" only "Linuxen". So you end up having to support a wide range of slightly different contexts. Things are a lot better in this new Pipewire world though - so there is hope. However, unless you're doing the AppImage thing you have to find a maintainer for each distro you want to support and ideally setup CI runners for the full matrix of possible Linuxen.

@plexus@toot.cat Yep, I saw - super cool. I sent a PR a few weeks ago. Hopefully things are even easier to work with now.

It says a lot about the corpus of existing code when the first thing the LLM does when it encounters a segfault due to execution order of concurrent threads is to introduce a timer to delay part of the computation.

WTF?!? Who on earth does this?

Clearly a lot of people...
