Whenever someone complains about surveillance networks like ALPR, there's always some pussy statist apologist coming out of the woodwork with the "But they're already tracking you through your car and your phone..." Motherfucker, I can leave my phone at home. I can drive an older car without tracking built in. I can put my Elon chip inside a tinfoil bag. How am I supposed to NOT drive past the panopticon-machine stationed on the PUBLIC road that goes where I need to go? This is a difference in KIND for the surveillance society. This is a complete REMOVAL of the ability to skip this kind of tracking. Just because YOU have already given up and bent over to being tracked because it was CONVENIENT, doesn't mean that those of us who still care should somehow be DENIED the ability to go about our lives with any semblance of privacy.

AI is not killing Hollywood. Hollywood is killing Hollywood. AI is just a convenient scapegoat, so that they don't have to face their failures.

Some suggested symptoms of mental illness to be included in the next DSM:

  • Trusting the government
  • Wearing a mask alone in a car
  • Having an AI girlfriend
  • Believing that the weather is your fault
  • Thinking that socialism can work

Sitting in the waiting room at my local doctor's office. There's a fifty-something well-kept woman across from me watching a video on her phone (volume up, ofc). From the video, I hear across the room:

"... and the official 9/11 report doesn't mention building 7 at all. We're just supposed to believe that a piece of falling debris somehow knocked down a third building? ..."

Even the normies are realizing the government is full of shit. The world is healing.

AI is not your friend. AI is not your lover. AI is not your therapist. AI is the lovechild of websearch and autocorrect, with a little more attitude and a lot less transparency.

I propose we rename vibe-coding to something that better explains the actual process. How about Dunning-Kruger-based development?

Life pro-tip: Do not sleep in the same room as your phone. You can thank me later. But I use it as an alarm clock Amazon has digital bedside alarm clocks for $10 But I use my phone in bed Countless studies show that staring into a screen at bedtime results in a worse night’s rest But I might get a notification overnight ThatsThePoint.jpg If this is your excuse, then you are what is known as an addict. Please analyze why you feel this way, and what makes social media clickbait so important that it can’t wait until morning. Then put the phone in the drawer for the night. You can check it to your heart’s content after you wake up fully rested. Like I said, you can thank me later.

@ryan@bxe.io @BaronessLoveandLight@noauthority.social Obviously there are trade-offs to passive vs. active stimuli while trying to sleep. My boomer dad fell asleep in front of a blaring television almost every day of his life. While I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, I do think the passive noise of TV, podcast, or audiobook is far less damaging than getting little dopamine and cortisol hits from notification pings during your sleep cycle. Something about knowing the noise is meant for you, combined with the impulse to interact with it.

Right-wing media headlines became so much more informative when I edited the character set on my PC to replace the red police car light emoji with a gif of a spinning dildo.

@HoneyBadgerSupreme@noauthority.social Socialism is a system in which government handouts exceed economic production. The difference is made up with stolen wealth (hence why socialism only begins in nations that were prosperous under some other system), and always lasts until the pool of wealth is depleted, at which point, the system inevitably collapses on itself. How long this takes is a function of GDP, starting wealth, and the excess and corruption by the ruling class. The most insidious part is that this often takes a generation or two - long enough for the population to forget how to be self-sufficient.

In the article, the author points out that the obvious AI entry points in the browser (the toolbar AI button and the omnibar) don't even use the local model. They still send your queries to Google. So you've got a ton of wasted bandwidth and storage space, no consent, no user action, no respect for user preferences (eg: deleting the file), and no privacy benefit because they route everything you type through the Google cloud anyway.

@Vox

What does "right to exist " actually MEAN?

When used in leftist propaganda, it's generally an example of a motte-and-bailey rhetorical reversal. The motte is an attempt to compel your speech, your actions, and your culture into accommodating their progressive demands or behaviors (in other words - outside the Overton Window of culturally acceptable). Understand that this, like everything in the Marxist ideology, is about power dynamics. It is a domination-play, to get you to submit to their emotional power over you.

If you refuse, then the bailey is the reversal. By refusing to capitulate, you are denying THEM their right to have psychological dominance over you. You are denying THEM their right to revel in mental delusions, and you are denying THEM the emotional comfort of everyone around enabling and reinforcing this antisocial behavior.

Surrounding themselves with submissive enablers who will confirm their narcissistic fantasies is what it means to "exist" to these people.

@feld@friedcheese.us Yeah, I can copy&paste talking points too. I'm not going to get into an argument between some random lady's podcast and some online statist who still thinks anything the government says can be trusted. Suffice it to say, the physics doesn't work out. It's been pretty well debunked by people who care about this a whole hell of a lot more than I do. The official 9/11 report is just the 47000th example of government gaslighting and lies. And that's just in my short lifetime.

@chrislw@podcastindex.social The "emergency" rationale is one that I've thought about quite a bit. I wonder, what types of emergencies do you expect in this scenario? How do you expect that getting awoken by the notification (as opposed to first thing in the morning) would allow you to change the outcome? Given that the call is remote, you wouldn't be in a position to render medical or defensive assistance. I don't know who your priority contacts are, but if they are adults then I should hope they can work out how to respond on their own (or find someone in physical proximity to help) If they're children, that's a tougher situation, but hopefully you've been teaching them self-reliance. There's the emotional support angle, but whether that justifies the stress and sleep impact of being permanently on-call is up to you. I am fortunate to have grown up before it was even possible to be available 24/7 via electronic tether. When I was a kid, I would get on my bike and tell my mom where I was going, and she wouldn't see me for hours. I had no cell phone, no smart watch. Just change for the pay phone, and a list of numbers memorized in case something happened. Kids today probably can't even fathom how humanity survived. Ultimately, this is just advice from some internet rando. Only you can decide whether your stated rationale is sufficient to tie your circadian cycle to a Silicon Valley database.

The first and most important question that consumers need to ask when they see the latest gotta-have new technology is "Do I actually need this?" Alternatively, "What current problem exists in my life, to which this is the solution?" The answer is usually "none". Society would have much better mental health if more people got an answer to that question before giving in to the hype.

Three dead at a festival yesterday in the far-left communist shithole known as Seattle. Police have arrested a suspect identified only as a "15-year-old". Not one news story mentions the suspect's race, which means he definitely wasn't white.

Reminder how all-mail-in voting works in Washington State: 1) The state mails out ballots which arrive a couple weeks before the election. 2) Citizens dutifully fill out their preferences and put the ballot into the mailbox or an unattended drop box. 3) At the end of election day, the Democrat election officials, as directed by the Democrat politicians, announce that the Democrat whom they had preselected to win the election, won the election. There are usually ballot counts attached to these announcements, but system offers no way for the public to verify the veracity of these numbers. 4) Shortly after the election, all mailed ballots are destroyed. Wouldn't want any of that pesky "evidence" laying around, would we? The system is perfect. No need to muck about with rigged voting machines, or ballot stuffing, or registering illegal aliens and dead people. They just announce the winner they want, and there is absolutely no way anyone can prove them wrong.

@admin@mastodon.foxfam.club @sir_rob@noauthority.social Also, my negativity is not reserved only for the state, but for anyone who seeks to control me or limit my agency. The state is the biggest most obvious example, but there are plenty of others; for example, anyone who sells me a product, and then seeks to limit what I am able to do with that product after the sale.

@admin@mastodon.foxfam.club Oh yes. It makes perfect sense. If everyone can run a model on their home PC, Anthropic becomes irrelevant, unless they can generate enough fear to convince the government to make local models illegal. More on that this Friday, you can be assured. @Pheonix@lotuseffect.social @phoneboy@lotuseffect.social

@sir_rob@noauthority.social It’s simple in the early models, where telematics were an add-on module. In the newer cars, it’s simply a software package that’s baked into the vehicle’s system software and gets regular forced signed updates OTA like everything else. If you want to remove it now, you have to jailbreak your vehicle and hope that doing so doesn’t disable the drivetrain out of spite. This is also how the driver monitoring will be delivered, where the company will have an AI that decides when you get in whether you’re allowed to use the device that you paid $100 grand to license.
