@silas@noauthority.social Because the US produces the majority of it's consumption domestically, followed by Alberta and Mexico. Only about 5% of US consumption is from the Middle East (and I don't know if that's 5% of the total or 5% of non-domestic).

@silas@noauthority.social Because the 'wrong sort' will ride trains, which is what I experienced when I attended uni. Also, the correct time to build those train tracks was 50-100 years ago.

@silas@noauthority.social NIMBYs though. I really feel for the people who are destined to have a 1 hour 1 way commute because of the bounds of affordability. I think about this often while riding my bike on the trail that took the place of a defunct railway.
