@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange I think though, it makes sense for them: in a large enough internal repository generated by thousands of engineers, you'll likely find a problem/solution near enough to yours, and reusing/adapting instead further proliferating has theoretic maintainance value. Not saying this is what actually happens (often it is genuinely easier to roll your own than adapt/share something existing). Then there are always the problems or people you can't contain, generating enough novelty.

@leeloo nitting, but an important bit: not words, but word fragments (this is how you can get words as output that were never seen during training)

@silverspookgames@mastodon.social the voice acting sounds quite quality. Was it done by actual actors, or winging it became this good?

Don't get good results out of AI? You are using the wrong AI, and not prompting it the right way.

The secret on how to do it right:

1. Use modern AIs called "compAIlers".

2. Write prompt the following way: first, write a nice introduction called the "type signature". Then follow up with more specific "instructions".

Run these through the AI. You either get a working output, or the AI tells if you need to modify your prompt, and which part.

And you will have enough leftover parts for an other half hour DIY project.

@QCCEChris@mastodon.social @CppGuy@infosec.space the first name Erzsébet is one of the most common for that era. The family name Illés is medium. So indeed, not an easily googlable. The hun wiki suggest the names Erzsébet Illés-Almár, Illes-Almar E used in foreign language publications.

@CppGuy@infosec.space the Hungarian wiki https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ill%C3%A9s_Erzs%C3%A9bet?wprov=sfla1 would give you more details, with a bit of translation applied.

@CppGuy@infosec.space indeed it is her! Woops, corrected, thanks! TBH I was not aware of the difference of these wordings. In Hungarian we normally use "csillagász" literally meaning "starrer", though the official body is called "...asztroNómiai..." indeed. There's a popular (?, well as popular as such can be) space podcast in Hungary where the hosts knew and worked with her, and tell some stories. Apparently she was the first astronomer here to learn to program and develop related computations.

Pledged a bit in support of a scientific animated book designated for 10-12 year olds about the (recently deceased) first Hungarian astronomist woman, Erzsébet (Elizabeth) Illés.

The scientific material is compiled by renovned #astrology folks, so should be accurate, yet accessible for the readers. One goal is to encourage girls to pursue interest in the field.

You can pledge too, quite ready, no registration required: https://adjukossze.hu/adomanygyujtes/motivacios-konyv-lanyoknak-az-elso-magyar-urkutatonorol-4330/

@kepano compared to default-on for all data, not able to opt out from anonymized aggregated metadata sounds not a big deal. Well, as long you assume it is handled truly as described. But your are trusting them your data to start with, so this again is the least concern. Okay maybe in the sense that it sets a precedent, that might come for true data as well on free plan eventually.. that would be bad.

@txtx @twit_terrorist @nixCraft I imagine if sufficiently many arch were open, this would fly. It might be a problem for you to be the first one to open up your arch. It could be an invitation for bad actors (or those with incentive to keep security bad) to prove your idea wrong.

The point where you can never be sure if a boring administrative website doesn't work because they just don't work, or since your blocklist caught 49 different trackers on their site and somehow they depended on one of those to run.

I start to think JS should be banned on serious websites.

Doing lot more infra / networking related work nowadays than anticipating. I like it very much, but I start to feel the urge to work on app logic sometime soon again.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @fribbledom@mastodon.social maybe we can plug the rephrased assertion "Every computer science data structure has a successful text representation". Okay, maybe breaks down around hashmaps or balanced trees.. but kind of.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @fribbledom@mastodon.social reminds of reading about.. 9P (?) and the idea of everything as file (sharing devices remotely etc), where they sidestepped the same interface problem. Not sure if that evolution branch arrived at something more formal.

@jwz@mastodon.social unrelated plug, "Alle hatter Johann" is a great movie. Maybe Dutch. Everyone always be very very wary of Dutch (edit: be wary of Danish.. not sure about Dutch) romantic movies (and this doesn't disappoint in that regard), but still outstanding in is scope and pacing.

@satnam6502@mastodon.social @BoydStephenSmithJr@hachyderm.io getting back to the "bring up a mess of API calls and such in an afternoon with AI", if we can ever attach formal logic enough to those API calls so that static analysis can determine safety... then why not... but can we? Not saying moving to the direction is not worth it, but probably more for the sake of moving to the direction, rather than for AI to be able to use it.
