@matt@toot.cafe @alpuzz@mastodon.social And Eloquence still calls that DecemberTalk, depending on how it's written. I haven't bothered to figure out when that happens and when it doesn't, but yeah, I owned a DecemberTalk Express back in the day.

Siri: Okay, I've added "I forgot to save myself" to the list.
Uh, alrighty then, I don't quite know how that happened, or what list you saved that to, but yeah I do keep forgetting to do that. Thanks!

Finally had a chance to grab some of that Aldi jalapeño bread. Tuna melts with smoked Cheddar = delicious! Of course they'll have taken it away by the time I try to get more. I get having Aldi finds for seasonal things like Oktoberfest, but why this? Come on, Aldi, I celebrate jalapeño bread season all year long.

We replaced our dishwasher in January but the unit we got was defective. One of the sprayer arms was so floppy that it kept hitting the rack of the dishwasher every time it spun. It made this loud, annoying but rhythmic kathunk sound. The replacement one was installed today and it's so much quieter, except now I wish I'd sampled the original to use in a music project I have neither the equipment nor the skills to make. I guess I just have to say "kathunk, kah, kathunk" from time to time while the dishwasher is running. Somehow, it's just not the same though.

@HG And now a plug for the place I work. We're a nonprofit working mostly with older adults new to vision loss. We have intro content for a lot of these tools, broken into bite-sized chunks. It's available either online, in large print, or audio sent by mail. It's all free. You can create an account at https://hadleyhelps.org and have a look around if you like.

@HG As others have said, there's not one screen reader to rule them all. There are screen readers, as well as tools to make the device easier to see, plus tools that read text when needed but are not full-fledged screen readers. each device type will have these tools. Each person you train will have different needs, i.e. some just want to read their texts and emails more easily and some will want to continue working with spreadsheets, writing their memoirs, etc. Those needs, plus whatever device the person already has experience with, can help guide you on where to start.

I baked a batch of butterscotch blondies, badly. Bleh! Wasn't intending on that much alliteration but once I noticed I just kept going with it. Anyway I don't know what was wrong with this recipe or my execution of it but they came out overly sweet, extra buttery and just not like I'd hoped they'd be. Something tells me they'll still get eaten, though.

@StroongeCast@hear-me.social When I was a teenager, my friends and I were on the way to a concert when we had a flat tire. The people who stopped to help us believed that because of my blindness, I was closer to the spiritual realm and embodied something angelic/holy. Then they all wanted to touch my hair for some reason. Very strange, but much better than the guy who shouted obscenities about how I was cursed by the sins of my parents every time I walked past his house.

I need your help to settle a debate between @Ranger1138@mindly.social and me which could have serious, far-reaching ramifications, affecting dinners for years to come. Feel free to make a case for your choice in replies. When building nachos, the queso goes:

@alpuzz@mastodon.social "We have no idea, can't be bothered to figure it out and no one's gonna call us on it" just doesn't quite have the same ring. And also, that's not just an issue I thought was caused by work blocking some thingy or other from downloading? It's actually the standard experience? That's really unfortunate.

Also I love soggy chips, but there does have to be an appropriate ratio of soggy chips to crispy chips. I think it's about 57 percent crispy to 43 percent soggy, but I don't quite have the equations figured out for a more exact measurement.

@CreativeChris@tweesecake.social @Lisasali@mindly.social I'd like to get one of these, too, but I do have one question. What happens if there's moisture in what you're sealing? I wouldn't try to vacuum seal soup or anything, but I would do this with meat. So if I'm sealing raw chicken breast, for example, I wouldn't want to contaminate or break the unit by sucking out bacteria-filled liquid. Ugh, that's a lovely thought before coffee on a Monday.
