ok having now read Canada's national AI strategy doc, I note that the word "trust" appears 44 times in 50 pages, but "we will devote the considerable resources of the state to making an example of a rich sociopath or two" as one path towards increased trust appears no times
(perhaps that's tactics not strategy? I dunno I'm not a government guy)
a funny bit is "we use claude code to make claude code" is one of those Rorschachian sentences that you could never reliably sentiment-analyze, kind of like "he has unique ideas, you'll be very lucky if you can get him to work for you"
the truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand

@deobald we will only write these (often quite good-for-humans-to-read) SKILL.md documents for our Lord and Saviour Piles of Linear Algebra the same way we'll only build public transit when someone is angling for the Olympics to descend on their town, and like, I'm so generally disappointed in us but at least when the last graphics card has been burned out and it all goes dark maybe we still have a few SKILL.md printouts around.
I don’t think I need to wonder any more how the opinions of the earliest or even middle-laterest people pointing out mesothelioma in meetings about asbestos were received.
Is there a Rails of writing documentation? Like, I don't want to think about the system at all. I want something reliable and non-hideous to look at where I can get in, do some writing, get out, have it be readable and linkable and get actively punished for tweaking the system.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I still think he’s very, very good, modulo a lot of tiresome alyoominium art woo woo. But it’s pretty clear the magic was the collaboration. In retrospect, iOS 7 was the first big warning sign of autohuffing. Exactly one source of farts acceptable to Jobs and they weren’t Ive’s.

Having sat with the AI For All strategy for a week:
1. this is just a too-clever-by-half nightmare in sans-serif; and
2. how in tarnation can any government get it so backwards, at an "I guess wet streets cause rain?" level, to frame a central problem as a widespread lack of trust by citizens rather than a widespread lack of trustworthiness by tech companies?

@octothorpe@mastodon.online Yeah, not great ... a 15.7.3 bump jammed, had to go to recovery and re-install the OS. I couldn't tell if the progress bar was moving so I put a sticky on the screen. The time estimate went from 3 hours to 8 hours to 12 hours, dropped to 1 minute, hung there for another hour, and ... the machine just rebooted and things seem to be working.

@plexus@toot.cat I’m trying on this fresh metaphor about our age: imagine that an intellectual chainsaw just got invented, and it’s just hard over here, trying to be at all thoughtful/critically-engaged about it while watching people who 100% do in fact know better get the intellectual clearcutting underway in quite a number of the intellectual forests I care about.
