I'm falling more and more out of love with social networks as a whole lately. Meanwhile, building in-person and one-on-one connections have been wonderful lately. I wish I could go to more third spaces, but with ME/CFS it's been hard to do much as it is. Getting better though, surprisingly!
I feel like many communication techniques aren't actually autistic masking, they can be bridging, and they can help you build healthier relationships and have more enjoyable conversations

@Daojoan It did that to a lot of things that I imagine we'd consider indulging in the arts, whether as a first-party or third-party enjoyer. It used to be such a mindful activity. Now it feels like everything wants us to see art as work. Both the initial creation as well as our interactions with art.
I long for society to remember to be mindful and intentional again.

@CoMaps Half the reservations aren't even valid I feel like. Yes, the GitHub mirror doesn't show security info because to not rely on a centralized service for that, and in general, is a good thing! Unless I'm misunderstanding something here 😅 Point being, yeah, you're doing amazingly well here, especially for a project that relies on OSM compared to everything else that does (no shade).

@zaire@fedi.absturztau.be No, it doesn't fix those fundamental issues, definitely not directly at least, but it might be our best ticket of getting there. More power to Continuwuity and alternative Matrix clients means less power to Matrix.org/Element HQ.
As for the knowledge barrier: This is an actionable task that the community can tackle. Think a website called The State of Matrix that transparently communicates these things we've discussed in this thread and recommends best practices accordingly. There's a very real path to solving this.
And finally: What else do you suggest? To just give up either E2EE or must-have features and turn to e.g. Signal (which won't replace Discord due to lack of features) or Fluxer (which isn't ready yet, is centralized and afaik doesn't have E2EE)? That's what I mean.

@steff@soc.femme.cat @zaire@fedi.absturztau.be Okay, that lines up with what I know 😄 Yeah, Postgres does not ship with suitable defaults, but I don't think I know a more efficient way to store and retrieve relational data than truly optimized Postgres.

@csara@vmst.io No idea what people are on about, Mythical Beasts' pricing is really bad compared to netcup and Hetzner. Use Cloudflare Pages[1] for static websites (free). Use netcup[2][3][4] for smaller things (€2-€17/mo), and a Hetzner auction dedicated server[5] for bigger projects (€35-€45/mo). (Just be aware that Hetzner is known to be quick to issue a 24h takedown notice if they receive a report of you hosting visibly queer content (girls kissing has apparently been enough for them in the past).)

@joelle@social.joelle.us Testosterone does make it easier to be angry but also easier to be compassionate, right? If I remember correctly, it makes animals and humans more likely to treat those they see below themselves (in terms of social hierarchy or even value as a being) worse, while making them more likely to treat those they look up to well. If what I said is accurate, for people who display high levels of anti-social behaviour, it would thus be worth focusing on how they view other people (e.g. as "less than" or at least "not as equals"), which very much is something that can be worked on.

The primary thing I do in my time is working on free open source software (FOSS) and volunteering my time and labour to support its users and communities. My work supports not just global but also domestic digital infrastructure. The internet as it is as well as software as a whole could not exist without the hard work that people like us pour into the foundation of all software that is FOSS. Meanwhile, the support we receive for such work is usually very low, negligible or even nonexistent, be it legally or financially. This needs to change. On a global level, but first on a domestic and legal level, by opening pathways for support as described in this petition. Not doing so would not only constitute a missed opportunity to support an altruistic labor of love dedicated to everyone who ever used, uses or will use an app, program, smart device or computer, but it would endanger digital infrastructure in Germany and would contribute to the slowness of making us more independent from US digital infrastructure.
@Cyb3rGoth I'm also surprised by my ability to form connections so well in person- actually, not that surprised now that I'm realizing I'm forming those connections with autistic people.

I stopped being able to please capitalism. The zoochosis just hits too hard at this point, I can't even tolerate the idea of selling my body anymore, to run in someone else's running wheel in a cage the owning class built for me, so that my labour can be used so that someone in the owning class can wipe his ass with cash and live in abundance while we're barely able to survive. fuck ts

No because people who had a bad time with Matrix in the past: I see you. But do give Continuwuity a shot. Esp. since v0.5.5 the homeserver setup got relatively smooth, and they're constantly working to improve the experience.
