I've made a start on the nudibranch this week, from the (delightfully thorough) pattern booklet I know this is a species called "Chromodoris annae" or "Anna’s
magnificent sea slug" and is 5cm long in real life.

It wasn't a great week for stitching time, but I've still made a bit of progress on the octopus, and it's obvious what it is now!

A shot of the whole of what I've stitched of the Animals Tree of Life. I'm making (slow) progress on the octopus on the left hand side, with just the backstitching to go now. Then only two more animals till I've finished part 2 of the overall piece.

I've finished the nudibranch & labelled him (the french knot for the dot on the i is a little big, so I may one day strip that label out and redo it, or I may just decide to leave it as is). To the right I've started work on the snail, only about 2 colours in so I don't think he's recognisable right now.

The algorithmic temperature chart progresses – I've done the blanks for down to the 20th Jan, and colours up to 19th Jan.
Algorithm from "Beading with Algorithms" by @gwenbeads@mathstodon.xyz & Robert Antonsen.
This is the new piece I started last week despite having lots of other stuff to work on. It's using one of the algorithms from @gwenbeads@mathstodon.xyz & Robert Antonsen's book "Beading with Algorithms" to make a temperature chart of the year.
I've stitched the 0s (dark grey) of the pattern for 16 rows all the way across, and the 1s (in colour) for 14 rows quarter of the way across corresponding to January 1st to 7th. The colour blocks have different colours for the min & max temperature each day. I'd worried it was settling down to a boring pattern but I think it's going to stay interesting! I'll probably catch up with the year sometime in the late summer coz when I've done down to the end of March I'll've stitched the 0s for the whole pattern and only have to fill in the colours which will be quicker.
I've done another couple of days on my algorithmic temperature chart – down to 22nd January now.
So I'm down to two active cross stitch projects with some others waiting in the wings, and obviously the sensible thing to do is focus on finishing one of those.
Anyway, I bought "Beading with Algorithms" by @gwenbeads@mathstodon.xyz and Roger Antonsen, which came out last month. I don't intend to take up beading (yes, I figured out where to get supplies, no I don't plan to start bead weaving, honest), so figured out how to mod it for cross stitch. Each "bead" is a 2x2 square, so that I can offset the rows slightly to look like the beads would.

The algorithmic temperature chart progresses – I've done down to the 24th January, with the grey blanks in for the first 24 days of the other quarters of the year. I can see there's going to be some quite colourful bits later in the year.

I finished off the cockle last week and stitched some more of the branches, and have now got about halfway through the nautilus.

The algorithmic temperate chart is now up to 5 February. I may have been over optimistic about being caught up by end of quarter 2 but I do still think I'll be up to date before the end of the year.

Nebamun Hunting in the Marshes progresses – the papyrus fans in this column are quite clear on their stalks now. The rows are getting longer again (the edge is quite irregular) so it's taking longer to do each row. I think I've still got a couple of weeks to go to finish the column (or maybe a bit more).

I'm still about 2 weeks away from finishing this column of Nebamun, and I feel like it's been 2 weeks for several weeks now! It's going through a colour transition right now from the beige-y background to the blue of the papyrus plants so it feels like almost every stitch in the row is either finishing or ending a thread. So between that & having been busy the last couple of weeks I've been making very slow progress.

I've done another critter on the Animals Tree of Life – the earthworm!

I've reached a milestone with the current column of this piece that isn't visible to anyone but me – the column reaches from row 96 to 185 (which is halfway down the overall piece), and my viewport on the pattern on my tablet has 30 rows visible at a time. Currently I'm about to start row 164, so I can see the end of the column on the pattern! In a few weeks I'll be on to the second column.

Nebamun progresses – you can see down the bottom of the column that I'm nearly through the colour transition into blues so it should get a bit quicker now I won't be starting & stopping threads every other stitch.

Making fairly slow progress on this piece, I'm up to February 8th now and the pattern repeat is definitely visible. Hopefully I'll get more stitching time soon and get more of this done.

I've finished part 2 of the Animals Tree of Life, and have just started part 3 (just the word "Vertebrate" so far)!

And I'm partway through making a card for my friend Nicola (who is not on Mastodon), it needs the pencil lines erased and then coloured in.
RE: @JigsawPieces@mastodon.social
Some of us rather more sensibly went out at 7:30am before the worms were up ;)
Nebamun Hunting in the Marshes continues to progress, the fans of the papyrus stand in the column I'm working on are fairly clear now and I'm soon (for a couple of weeks values of soon) going to get down to a portion with a lot more stalks of plant.
Pattern by Scarlet Quince.
The year's temperature chart continues to grow. I've done the 0s (grey) for up to January 15th, and the colours for up to January 14th. The pattern continues to evolve and it's now clearly both interesting and also interesting in a way that works for this piece (there are becoming more areas where the colours will dominate rather than the grey).
Just a little further with Nebamun Hunting in the Marshes, the papyrus fans are yet more obvious.

Nebamun Hunting in the Marshes continues to slowly grow … more of the papyrus stand is visible.

I've not got much further with the birthday card for my sister in law, but it's OK as her birthday isn't till the end of April. It's made it onto the card now, and I need to make some colouring decisions.
