@404mediaco@mastodon.social It's time to normalize privacy. The more people use GrapheneOS and similar tools, the better.
Age verification will not work. Parents routinely give their own devices to their children to keep them busy.
So when mandatory age checks kick in, parents will verify their laptop, TV and phone, before handing them back to their children.
And then what? We're back to the same problem, except with an extra layer of surveillance on top.
Choosing alternatives to #bigTech made me realise how uncomfortable people are with change. They get confused when the UI is different, and think it looks old and difficult.
I talk to people who try to move away from #Google, #Meta or #Microslop but fail because the friction is too great.
The ability to learn and adapt to new Software is a skill. The better we get at it, the more we future-proof ourselves against #enshittification.

@six_grandfathers_mountain@mastodon.social @tranquil_cassowary@infosec.exchange @404mediaco@mastodon.social Not quite. The duress pin wipes the phone's data, and gets back to a clean GrapheneOS install. It's not bricked, but it is unrecoverable.
I started playing around with static website creation using Hugo. It's so fun! It reminds me of the old internet, when everyone had a blog.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Internet #privacy matters to me because we should not accept the monetisation of our personal information.
We should be users and customers, rather than a currency to exchange with data brokers.

@elena I am sometimes reminded of the anti-AI bubble I live in.
As soon as I talk to people, I realise how many just use LLMs routinely without questioning the ethics, energy costs, privacy risks or impact on their capacity to think.
I love solving problems, and I do it with my brain.
Todotxt-cli is awesome.
I can manage my tasks from the terminal, and they are saved in a human-readable text file.
I just successfully jailbroke my kindle! I love that I can keep using this perfectly functional piece of equipment, without having to rely on Amazon.
Buying DRM-free ebooks is way too difficult 🥲 There are a few technical books, and some science fiction.
That's kind of it.
Sure I like paper books, but storage is an issue and I only read most books once.

@elena@aseachange.com Thank you for inspiring me to jailbreak my kindle! I love that I can drag and drop my books, instead of having to send them to Amazon.
I even wrote a little bash script that uses Rsync to compare and synchronize the two folders, making it extra easy to keep my computer library and my kindle in sync!
The tricky part is to find online shops that sell DRM-free books... But they exist!

@elena@aseachange.com Thank you for the heads up! Mine has a touchscreen, so I should be ok 🔥

@elena@aseachange.com This is inspiring! I have an old Kindle lying around... I guess I found my next project!

@Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange Thank you for the reminder, getting started on a privacy journey can be overwhelming.
I try to take it one step at a time. It is not perfect, and that's ok. It's also more fun this way, as I get to break it down into little projects.

@fbinin@mastodon.fbin.in That is very impressive 👏 I don't think I've read any book more than three or four times.

@RantingCanuck@mstdn.ca Absolutely, and much progress was done over the past few years on that front.

@stranded_output@indieweb.social Fair enough 😆 It took me a while to get comfortable with shader scripting in Godot, and I was already familiar with node-based shaders.
