I am not here right now. I am taking a well-deserved social media vacation. No need to worry, I will return eventually. But for right now, it's most definitely KitKat time. 🤷

If anyone wants to recruit a senior R&D code monkey with multiple degrees for a job that will involve neither "AI" bullshit nor "blockchain" bullshit nor "HFT" bullshit nor killing people nor destroying the planet just for the heck of it...

I get cheaper and cheaper by the minute as things descend deeper and deeper into nutty "More cloud and more AI will fix it!!" chaos around me.

Located in Germany. Will only work remote as we're tied to this place due to aging parental units. Strong preference for something related to actual green technology such as solar.

I just love blocking the "but why did you fork it? there are no AI bugs I can see?" assholes. It's not about bugs you silly slopgobbler, it's a matter of principle. And OF COURSE you don't understand that. What with your "just a tool" attitude.

Alright, now GCC allows "limited amounts" of slop. So I guess in a throwback to 30-ish years ago, we'll see a GCC fork without slop soon-ish? Anyone remember the olden days of the GCC forks and EGCS? #noai #gcc #gnu #fsf #egcs

There's a cartoon that I never knew I needed to read. Thank you Florian of "Bad Gear" fame for using it in your "Boring Gear" episode! The proper link for the cartoon is https://jaythurber.com/2021/09/04/cq-cartoon-sept-2021/ and I've included the thing itself for your viewing pleasure.

What's on the menu? Lode Runner for sure. DOOM certainly, plus all the WADs ever made for it. Quake I, II, and III; and the free derivatives. Baldurs Gate I and II for sure. Elite maybe? Lost Vikings of course!

I'll add more later.

Potentially Offensive Anti "AI" Sentiment

PSA: I have now reached the level where I will block people simply for mentioning "AI" in a remotely positive way.

WHY? All such mentions sound to me like

  1. "well yes, we're draining lakes and burning down forests and extracting yet more fossil fuel to hasten suicidal ecological collapse, but on the upside..." or

  2. "well yes, we're exploiting the labors of billions of people without proper compensation which some could interpret as retroactive slavery, but on the upside..." or

  3. "well yes, we're supporting fascist billionaire pricks and the murdering fascist governments they put up over us, but on the upside..."

and I believe I am actually being kind by not lumping these three together like I should. Because then I'd actively have to hunt your ass down you useless fucking sociopath.

@joeinwynnewood @daisy The management line will be "Well, you've not been sufficiently subservient to the AI so of course it's not helping you as much as it could. We'll hire someone who understands how to Tamagotchi these things appropriately. Good luck out there!"

@mikaeleiman@mastodon.sdf.org @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange This. Gentoo was kinda right. Although building Firefox from source sucked. 😁 But especially for widely deployed stuff, minimal kernels and userland are the way to go. I even get paid doing stuff like that, among other things of course. Although I am sure nobody on the C level knows that they're also paying me for that.

Saw one of these guys at @FabLabMuc@muenchen.social the other day. There's a "board" with lots of drums and bells and stuff mounted and that "board" has a MIDI interface. There's an MPC driving it all and some hacked foot switches to control the MPC. It's a "band in a box" in a way. A large box, admittedly. Good times! 😄 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgxQzq0nNOw https://loopinlab.com/

Anyone switching from spinning rust to something else? I'm in the market for three or four used 4 TB or 5 TB SATA disks. I have two 5 TB disks here and I'd like to put them into a RAID-10 with spares. I don't care about 1 TB capacity either way hence I am flexible when it comes to the actual size. But it shouldn't be LESS than 4 TB. If SMART seems fine and there's no actual rust leaking out, I might be interested in your old disks! (I am in Germany and looking primarily for disk in Germany.) #sata #spinningrust #disks #germany #boostsAreAppreciated

You have to get through the ads at the beginning, but the four CBM PET machines being sequenced and making live electronic music in front of an audience are kind worth seeing anyway. 🤷 https://invidious.nerdvpn.de/watch?v=IS5CBUAH7PI

Sometimes when you're going through your old vinyls you find something that you had COMPLETELY blocked from your adult mind. And possibly for very good reason. Yikes!

And since it doesn't fit into my "Hip Hop Electro" thread exactly, here's another thread of "Real Hip Hop" that seems deeply rooted in 1981 or thereabouts. 🧢 🎤 #hiphop #oldschool
