if your intention is to have a commercial game, yes that applies, but sometimes you may need to do it as a statement if you have a really specific artistic vision and is not aiming at commercial appeal

@root@possum.city yes, even if it was not, old games had a lot of incentives to waste your time. (being arcades needing you to spend as much money as possible, or console games... needing to justify the steep costs hardware makers put into licensing)
