@slashdottir@mastodon.online : Exactly. We give corporations too much credit often thinking that they ultimately make cunning decisions to efficiently maximize profit. After all, that is the promise of capitalism. Anyone who works in the corporate world long knows that personal politics, ego, and shear stupidity are far bigger factors resulting in most decisions really being far from optimal for the corporation. Companies beat competors by sucking slightly less.
Anyone who has worked with outsourced labor long knows that companies will literally pay more to deliver work that direct hires have to redo simply for the appearance of "agility." That has gone on for decades so the feedback loop won't really fix this. Capitalism is massively inefficient.

Major version should be the shame release because you couldn't think of any solution that didn't break back compatibility so you forced a migration on all of your users.
However, this is probably the "current state" slide and semver is the "ideal state" slide.

Cutting the increase? Why are Democrats voting for any ice funding at all? Why are they approving any budget at all? They are naive if they think there will be more fair elections. This is their last chance to save democracy. All federal funding is a weapon for Trump to use.

This is really true of any cloud provider. If your data can be decrypted on the server side, then US law enforcement can force the server owner to hand over your data without telling you. it isn't enough just to trust the server owner. There must be no physical way for them to access the data.
It also isn't enough to use non-US cloud providers. The US has agreements with many other countries.
If the app isn't open source, end to end encrypted and audited, assume that the US government can get it whenever they want.

End state will be 3d printer firmware as thin client to cloud service with surveillance on all print jobs and your printer only working when connected to the internet.
DIY printers and quad copters are going to become worth making again.
