Qwen3.8 27B FP8 is the breakthrough coding model marking the arrival of local AI capable of producing commit-worthy code. Previously, it was the exception rather than the rule. @godot_dater@mastodon.world 35B is an MoE model, so a better comparison would be between the two 27B versions. The improvement from the previous version to 3.8 isn’t huge, but it crossed some boundary where the generated code suddenly feels okay.

@romac@hachyderm.io My work-in-progress handcrafted coding agent already outperforms Claude Code. At least it gives the same result in a fraction of the time Claude Code does. My working theory is that proprietary agents are deliberately designed to burn as many tokens as possible.
