Friendly doctor person providing transient random-fedi toots with announcements. Flying status: pants, by seat of.
I grew up in Alabama but settled down in Portland and then Beaverton, OR. A stay-at-home dad; family physician, retired for medical reasons.
I'm allergic to cats and dogs but my cat and dog don't seem to care. Awkward Linux-type computer toucher.
Biographical details may be changed to project shitpostyness

This is Cap. I'm not surprised that some cats are able to kill flying insects. I'm just surprised that Cap can do it. He's obese, 11 years old, and usually motionless. We've had agile, athletic cats that couldn't kill a fly.
This week cap jumped & snagged a wasp without getting stung. Usually he eats the bug, but he seemed to know that was a bad idea. He spent several hours toying with it. It even got airborne again a couple of times before getting knocked back down. All hail the house lion!
Schools should be preparing students for the job market of the future. As AI becomes more capable, human children must be taught to stay a step ahead.
Hey #fishshell fans: fish_update_completions is an astoundingly useful command that I just discovered today.
It searches all your man pages and generates completions for any commands that may have been installed since you installed fish. I might need to run this on a scheduled basis. #linux
Never let the bastards make you believe you're bad at identifying crosswalks.
For Mother's Day. my son and I took my wife to see the Sheep Detectives at the theater. 🐑🐑🐑/5.Then on the way home, we saw 2 people in my son's high school parking lot walking lambs on leashes. Right after watching the sheep movie. It was the weirdest coincidence.
Aloha, OR (an unincorporated suburb) does seem to be a hub for urban farmers, with looser regulations than Portland. So it's not completely shocking to see, just weird timing.
(our previous neighbors kept around a dozen chickens)
I can't believe they're teaching this blasphemous nonsense in public schools.
I'd like to think I've handled my life with aplomb. I'd like to think I've handled lots of stuff with aplomb. But knowing that would require looking up aplomb in a dictionary.
What I like best is the angel of a dead GI holding hands with his husband,, the Dark Lord, Sauron. After leaving Middle Earth for good, it's fitting that he was not sent to a better place. Imagine sharing the afterlife with a soldier (who is in his Good Place) dragging you around to Trump miracles.
@ernie@writing.exchange I liked the recent mention of the Transmeta Crusoe. I missed it the 1st time around. When I started med school in '01, I got a Fujitsu Lifebook with a 10" screen and WinXP. The performance was a bit disappointing compared to the hype but 6 years later people were buying way-slower netbooks.
I could take it everywhere, it played DVD's, wifi, an all-day battery, and was very stable compared to previous Win9x machines. I remember it fondly, even if it was just a really small laptop.
My status for the last week has been
I use Arch, wtf.
I'm convinced Coldplay and Radiohead are the same band. It's just simpler that way.
I'm under the impression that scarecrows don't work. A few years ago my dad and I were driving through corn fields in Minnesota and saw a scarecrow. He noted that it was the first time he had seen one that wasn't on TV. He was over 70 years old and grew up in a rust-belt Indiana city. There's nothing but corn fields for over an hour in every direction. I'm no expert I'm going to guess Roundup is more effective and probably cheaper.
I just realized how far along we are in this cyberpunk AI apocalypse and I've not yet heard any suggestions to use LLM's for the Catholic sacrament of penance and it's frankly starting to feel a little weird.
I guess there's always @fesshole@mastodon.social
Damn, the free year of Google One AI Pro that came with my phone upgraded from 2TB to 5TB. I need to develop an addiction to some sort of obscure type of porn.
I used to be that guy. My workplace was wedged between a chain brewpub and an Interstate Battery. I had to make sure people knew they were fat because some are in denial about things.
I'm pushing 360 lbs now, and I'm pretty sure I'm fat. I've talked to my PA about it. (from @dasharez0ne@mastodon.social )
Some days, when it's quiet, I can hear a squawk. It could be a backyard chicken, some other species of bird, or a hallucination. I would give even odds on the three,
I've banged my head against my monitor for years trying to get MacOS to run on a VM on Linux. I finally got it working with QEMU/KVM.
It required some tweaking, but not a ton. I had to figure out a CPU option thing and change some settings so my USB wireless mouse worked.

The main thing I wanted to get working was Preview. None of the free Linux or Wine-compatible PDF-editing options are all that great for my purposes.
I don't how there could be any positive outcome at this point, unless:
A. Iran surrenders and agrees to part with their enriched uranium.
Pre-war, it was a country with uranium that didn't like us. Now the only other outcomes are:
B. A country that **REALLY** doesn't like us that also possesses enriched uranium.
or, maybe even worse:
C. A failed state, with enriched uranium in the possession of some random dude(s).
