@FediGarden@social.growyourown.services I feel like this is really easily solvable by just having the apps randomly cycle which server is selected by "default" when people are signing up. Obviously still give the option for people to manually select their preferred network, but by having the default random. Just limit the random server selection to something like 10-20 reputable instances that have a track record of quality administration. That would avoid sending people to an instance that is unsupported and at a higher risk of shutting down.

@caseyliss@mastodon.social for what it's worth, I switched to jellyfin last year and it's a pretty polished experience. I'm sure there are some things, like streaming from friends libraries, that are still missing but in our household we've not noticed any downgrades.

@maaikees@sw-development-is.social I agree with you. The resources going into making LLMs function is unsustainable and destructive. At some point, the desire for the companies to make more money will inevitably lead to more efficient energy usage if for no other reasons than increasing profit margins. So likely the resource usage issue will be significantly diminished? How do you think that will impact people's arguments against LLMs? There's still the privacy and ethical concerns I suspect will persist.
