@trishagee@mastodon.social been looking for a new position on and off for a few years, and actively since at least September 2025, nothing signed yet. This is the first time in more than 20 years in tech that it takes so long. Actually, most of the previous times, I already had the new plan in place when giving my notice. The current landscape is wild. Most recruiters don't even respond to applications. The ones that do usually blindly trust the LLM behind their ATS. Most of the really good gigs are hidden.

Principe numéro 5 : le test est plus important que l'unité testée. Certaines personnes considèrent qu'un test unitaire devrait n'avoir aucune dépendance en dehors de l'unité testée - pas de base de données, pas d'appel à distance... La vraie réponse est : ça dépend. Si le code est fortement couplé à une dépendance externe, il vaut mieux avoir des tests qui utilisent la dépendance que pas de test "parce que ce serait pas propre".

J'aimerais bien reprendre des cours de #japonais, sur #Genève ou en ligne.

J'ai eu la chance de pouvoir débuter en école d'ingé, entre 2001 et 2004 avec une super profe japonaise qui nous a donné des bases solides pour la conversation, assez pour demander notre chemin sur place et ne pas trop passer pour des rustres, mais clairement pas assez pour lire, écrire ou parler couramment.

Le repouet apaise les yōkai 👺

Principe numéro 12 : les bons tests échouent. Des tests qui passent tout le temps, en toutes circonstances, ne servent à rien. Il est assez facile d'écrire des tests qui donnent 100% de couverture, mais qui ne vérifient rien. Un bon test échoue, au moins une fois. Si le comportement du code change, au moins un test doit échouer.

Pour #VendrediLecture je suis retombé dans "Kurokami – Black God" écrit par Lim Dall-young et dessiné par Park Sung-woo.

Un shōnen qui tire sur le seinen, une intrigue qui mêle équilibre mondial, pactes avec des êtres supérieurs, baston et parfois un peu de fan service gratuit. Mais une histoire vraiment sympa et un style graphique très détaillé.

Je l'ai lu il y a... 20 ans, et j'y retourne avec plaisir après l'avoir conseillé à Numéro 1 (iels grandissent si vite...)

Principe numéro 9 : un test moche est meilleur que l'absence de test. Quand le code est moche, le test peut parfois être moche. Personne n'aime écrire des tests moches, mais le code moche est celui qui a le plus besoin de tests. Ne laisse pas le code moche t'empêcher d'écrire des tests, mais fais en sorte qu'il t'évite d'écrire encore plus de code moche.

Principe numéro 4 : considère le code et les tests comme une seule entité. Quand tu écris du code, pense au test. Quand tu écris un test, pense au code. Quand tu traites le code et les tests comme une seule entité, tester est facile et le code est beau.

Principe numéro 11 : seuls les idiots n'utilisent pas d'outils. Certaines tâches sont mieux effectuées à mains nues, d'autres avec des outils. Il n'est pas spécialement noble de faire à la main une tâche qui peut être effectuée avec un outil. Il n'est pas spécialement sage d'utiliser sa tête quand ce n'est pas nécessaire.

Principe numéro 10 : parfois, la fin (du test) justifie les moyens. Certains pensent qu'utiliser des bibliothèques d'objets simulés (mocks), c'est tricher parce que ça casse l'encapsulation. Encore une fois, la réponse est : ça dépend. Parfois, il est nécessaire de modifier le code pour le rendre testable. Parfois, il vaut mieux le traiter comme une boîte noire et tester les limites.

Ça a l'air d'être des principes de bon sens, mais le bon sens est très inégalement réparti. Ça ressemble aussi pas mal à des principes de base de vie en communauté, là aussi on a parfois des surprises. Donc tu sais ce qu'il te reste à faire, que tu écrives déjà des tests ou pas. Suis la voie de Testivus, et n'hésite pas à emmener tes collègues avec toi.

Principe numéro 6 : le meilleur moment pour écrire des tests, c'est quand le code est frais. Ton code est comme de l'argile. Quand il est frais, il est mou et malléable. Quand il vieillit, il devient dur et friable. Si tu écris tes tests quand le code est frais et facile à changer, tester est facile, et le code comme les tests seront forts.
