@withaveeay@mastodon.scot Truth be told, *I* mind. It's one of my pet reporting systems, and I rather it didn't have such problems. So I'm perfectly happy to do the updates about the fix, almost as a reassurance to myself.

I'm off to Ireland today until the weekend. See the offspring, congratulate them on goals reached, plot new goals.
They are now autonomous adults, but I try not to remember that, mainly to prevent myself thinking of my own senescence 😹

Every country in the world has a welfare state.
In poor countries, it's just privatised. But this is in the cynical sense that poor people are expected to look after their families and communities, with no rational 'state' support.
It erodes social and personal capital - no assets exist, only income and expense. Encourages paternalism and hierarchical control of women and children. Gangs proliferate, becoming successful as informal welfare organisations.

If there's one thing that I know I'm really good at, it's imposter syndrome.

The Odyssey. Not bad. Nolan caught between making a blockbuster and making an arthouse meditation on trauma. It sometimes feels like he's forcing two films into one. I think I prefer the scenes with Athena, Calypso and Tiresias, which describe the choices between remembering and forgetting the past and the future. The Sack of Troy is done 1000% better than that schlocky Troy movie.

I've been handling a reporting systems crisis all week, which is under control now but needs some detailed management until everyone's nerves are settled. Mysteriously all the people who have been demanding instant answers from me are today not replying to my updates.
Ahhhh - there's a public holiday in SA on Monday. Urgency is relative.

Spotify spelade Scissor Sisters sedan The Offspring en efter en. Jag tänker banden skulle vara okej med det!

@kimvanwyk@fosstodon.org Yes it's perfect and exactly true. The Boots Theory describes 'scale' in terms of quality, but it works the same way in terms of quantity too.
For example, a big bag of rice costs less per kilo than a small one, but a poor person must buy three of the small bags over time, because they can't afford the big one to begin with.

@overholt@glammr.us And it's been decades since I first read that - about the 1980s - and winced.
