Posting a comment about Gate Array Logic ICs (GALs) has just reminded me of a time a couple of years back when I received a bad batch of said devices ('New old stock'), and the supplier wanted a quick video of me running tests on a couple of chips, so I duly made a recording and sent it to them.

Naturally, I kept a copy of the test video...and that's how I had to show my wife and explain the contents of a folder on the home server called BADGALS.

@jaseg@chaos.social There was a pro-tip that used to circulate data centre ops to help locate a server if it wasn't easily identifiable. The tip was to run a heavy load on the server and either walk round the data centre listening for the louder fans (in a noisy data centre!?), or use a thermal camera to find the hotter one.

That's a cute bit of kit. I'll have to get my Z80 stuff out sometime. Would it run this? https://github.com/linker3000/z80porter

@cymplecy@fosstodon.org There used to be a Decathlon near to where I worked (I've changed jobs since). Their 'Artengo' basic tennis balls were the only ones my dog could not destroy. Lose-yes, destroy-no.

TP is the Biz. Great fun. I used to use it extensively on IBM PCs for engineering apps back in the day, and when I got into the RC2014 scene a few years ago I dusted off and back-ported my experience to the CP/M version.

@cos I have the same issue. Does the battery have its own management system or is it reliant on the V3? If it doesn't have it's own, the V3 tends to go into a funk as the battery slides through going flat / brownouts and doesn't play nice later. If there's an external BMS that kills the power dead at batt low threshold then turns it on sharp when it's charged enough things tend to work better.

Yes, their power plugs are also often centre negative, like a lot of music gear. Good to check before buying a power supply and plugging it in.

I'm moving my mail services off Gmail and on to a self-hosted platform at Hetzner (with backups set up). Still undecided how much to keep. Just happy to shrink down my ongoing exposure to G's vagaries and any use of my data for purposes not of my choosing.
