@em@babka.social sorry I've been circumventing your filters by using the more appropriate GNU/Linux

@amayasnep@meow.social It was like this at my shul for a while. So I started going every shabbat. Next time someone showed up my age, we became friends. Now there are multiple young people at the kiddish table. It took effort but I had to build the kehilah that I wanted to exist

Just call me a kike, you don't gotta bring UTF-8 into it.

@rooster@beige.party It's tough, and especially because I work in automation. I do what I do because it meant I could afford to have kids, raise them, and contribute to my kehilah. But I do think about this a lot and how I don't know how anyone gets that same opportunity without being in tech..

@crowgirl@hachyderm.io if you had access to the disk, /etc/crypttab and /etc/fstab would be useful, but that would require you to be able to read the disk which is the point. However, if you can read anything, dump those files.
One question would be whether you have an encrypted home dir but not root filesystem, I think some versions of Ubuntu used to do that.

@crowgirl@hachyderm.io A hint here, though, is that it couldn't be mounted if it were encrypted. So either something else is mounted, or you're dealing with LVM and home directory encryption potentially

@em@babka.social I've had a couple of these recently and holy fuck
At least in this case, the person was honest and instead of answering any PR questions, just says "ask cursor, I don't know, I didn't write it" .. ok

@crowgirl@hachyderm.io Oh! This is actually straightforward to fix, especially if getting access to the data read-only is the primary goal -- don't panic, don't try to reinstall. Boot into a shell with a livecd and see what lsblk tells you -- does it recognize the disk as crypt? Are you able to read the LUKS header?
