The mass rush for A.I. datacenters is making the PC hobby completely unaffordable, with RAM, Storage, and GPU prices becoming unaffordable for the majority, and building resentment. I think a lot of peeps see using A.I. as supporting the very thing that is hurting everyones pockets right now, especially in some US states where Electricity cost are through the roof for infrastructure upgrades. ones that the A.I. companies should pay for.

@JackTheCat@mastodon.scot Well if you're around the Glasgow area, we get winds later, about 9pm- into tomorrow. We catch the tail end of the storm. Ireland Wales and South Scotland catch the leading edge which has the stronger winds ~mid 70s mph. So Dumfries and Galloway, and parts of Ayrshire will see the Highest winds I think.

It'll be passed us all by tomorrow morning.

#Norway best prepare, #Stavanger and #Egersund are going to get slammed Tomorrow lunchtime. 90mph winds.

@maxleibman Medically, max per day is 400mg, or about 4 cups of brewed coffee. I bet many people are doing double that. If the system doesn't have a driver for that EDID, it'll look in it's database of available drivers for one. If it finds one in the MS database, it'll download it and install it automatically. If it's not in the database,you'll probably get a yellow triangle, until you manually install a driver for the device. That's the basic OS chain. And to get in MS's database - ever heard of signed drivers?

@Tschekka1982 @Tutanota Give Linux Mint a try. I daily drive it, ever since moving at the end of Win 7. It's improved tremendously over the years, So now I game, surf, sometimes program, and do pretty much everything on Mint. There's the odd niche thing where I need windows (Firmware updaters, chip programmers) , which I do from a win 7 VM in virtualbox. If you make a Mint USB key, you can boot from it and try it without installing it to your disk, till you're ready. Highly recommend.

@artemis@dice.camp Not always. I have to stay away from my family, cos they still hope (think) I made a mistake, and maybe one day I realise this and go back. I've not spoken to my mum, for a year and a half now. 21 years transitioned, and cos I mentioned my depression was ticking up again the other year, she was back with the "hopeful" question of did I think I'd made a mistake. Fuck . That. Shit. So no, just cos people know trans folk, doesn't mean they'll come out to bat for them.

@artemis@dice.camp Och, you weren't invalidating my experience. None of it is in any way your fault, quite the opposite. Your fighting for oppressed folk when you even don't know them! I'm just pointing out though, that not all trans people have folk in their life who know them, will fight for them and their rights, and in a lot of cases will just victim blame instead. Cos that's easier, right? How dare us be different from everyone else, and still demand some basic respect.

When all the "Trusted Platform Module" stuff started appearing, it raised my suspicions about them wrenching ownership control away from the user to the big corps. Win 11 requiring TPM and an MS account + add OS age verification, they can basically watch everything you do. It's totally killed my tech enthusiasm, as everything seems geared to collect data and spy on you. It's why I avoided all the IoT stuff and Alexa/Siri/Ok Google.

@smn@l3ib.org @Viss@mastodon.social Not quite. You could fake a device ID, and get the OS to download a different driver, where the payload would exist. But it has oversight, so would be unlikely. It's not executing code from an EDID chip, only providing ID data. But could you embed an EDID chip in a cable, to report one different from the display? Yes. I have a DP to VGA adapter that does this, while converting DP signals into VGA.
