@simon_brooke @bob @aral I’d go so far as to say that, really, none of the established patterns work well. They are all bound by their own assumptions as to how software development “should” be done but none of them really consider how the whole system will work in the real world. I’m very glad that I’ve been out of that game for a while now, although I do try to keep in touch with what’s happening and spend a fair bit of time rolling my eyes.

@Wen@mastodon.scot It’s probably just selective memory on my part but why is it that whenever I see something like this around the UK (which I presume this is) the vehicle often seems to be: a) Chelsea tractor (Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Discovery, etc.) b) BMW c) Pimped double-cab pick-up (i.e. not actually ever used for real work) Are the people who buy these just a bit dim when it comes to how tides, etc. work? Or too high on their own farts to think it will happen to them?

@robinince@mastodon.social I’m just some random bloke on the Internet, but… I’m so sorry to hear this and absolutely furious too - there’s something increasingly rotten in the management and oversight of the BBC. But you can rightly be proud of your principles and rest secure in the knowledge that you have taken a stand for what is good, right, decent and honest. Thank you.

@oldrawgabbit It’s been a dreich old day down here, but there was one point when I was in Stranraer this morning and it was absolutely torrential. A proper, noisy, hammering downpour.

@alex_p_roe@mastodon.world Even those who have previously held down other jobs which did require qualifications and training seem to suffer a total and utter collapse of all intellectual (and moral/ethical) function once embarked upon a political career. Naming no names but I can think of one particular example immediately and I’m sure there are probably others.

@dabowphoto@mastodon.social Many years ago, my wife and I were having a holiday up at Gruinard Bay, staying in a nice self-catering place. On our second (third?) day there, a full-on Atlantic storm swept in and absolutely hammered the place for hours. I’m not a little guy, but I couldn’t physically push the door open on the windward side of the house. It was almost scary, but mainly absolutely glorious! (Wouldn’t have wanted to be out in it though…)

@DarkGalloway The Hairy Man was probably just people spotting me wandering around the place back when I lived in Portpatrick and my beard was longer. It was one of my favourite short walks. Great photo. 👍

@bert_hubert If I were still working in software development I think I’d be right there with you on that one. But I did find the Register’s recent interview with Greg Kroah-Hartman interesting: https://www.theregister.com/2026/03/26/greg_kroahhartman_ai_kernel/ Obviously, blatant AI/LLM slop deserves to go straight in the bin but I’m curious what has caused a seeming step change in the quality of AI bug reports, etc. Have the LLMs suddenly improved or are people finally actually checking what they produce?
