I went to do the dishes, I come back to a kitten on a cat tree...
...you can say that she's up high.

Since I got her back she's been purring non stop. Quietly at the vet, and really loud since the cab.
As you can see she has bandages and a "vest". So far she doesn't seem to pick on it, fingers crossed. Hopefully the training we did helped.

She rolls around on the balcony so much, her bandage is going to be dirty in no time. So I figured I'd try to give her her actual vest to wear over it, and THAT, at least, I can put in the wash if needed.
She seems fine with it, too.

Right now she's insulting birds, so she's in her element :D
She also took a few bites of kibble and drank some water, but I'm not giving her a full bowl yet as we want to make sure she doesn't throw up for a few hours.

By the way, funny story : you know how I started training her (fully knowing she wouldn't be perfectly ready for the surgery, but hopefully enough that it'd help) to take medication on command ?

NO I DID NOT TRAIN HER FOR THAT.
We're probably going to argue over the drops, if I know anything about cats.

From the surgeon I also learned that Tippi had "a surprising layer of fat on her stomach", which is weird because she's not fat. But that could indicate she stocks it easily, so we discussed a meal plan for her to keep her current silhouette as long as possible. The nutrition advice was very detailed and I appreciate that.
It's going to be a bit of a pain to put in place, but the good news is that TipToe is not a food vacuum (like SOMEONE I won't name) so it should not be a nightmare.

While we were talking about all that, Tippi wanted nothing more but to get out of her bag. However the minute a loud dog appeared in the clinic (reaching easily 200db), she calmed down and I barely heard her. She had a couple of plaintive meows in the taxi home, but that's it.

Because here and on every goddamn platform I see a lot of people virtue signalling, and not a lot of people actually doing the work that could stop us from dooming.

Crazy idea : maybe the onus should be on people to talk more about what they do, the changes they work for, the hope their action brings, so that when vulnerable people start dooming, there are links to provide as proof that things are not so hopeless ?

Cute things Tippi did today :
- she followed me everywhere all day, even when I just went 5min to the bedroom to put away clean clothes (and she purred the whole time)
- she took 5 "meds" (=snacks) on the pillow and when I put away the pillow she resumed playing
- she came to the desk several times for a cuddle ; she just takes it for granted now that she can get up there and curl up into my arms while I'm typing or whatever
- we played soccer with a crinkle ball for a couple of minutes XD

Tomorrow is vet day, it's probably going to be less cute XD
She needs a booster shot, nothing bad :) I've heard she is well-behaved at the vet, it's just the transport she dislikes, but you never know.

Hm... We went to look at the street like we do pretty much at least once a day, but today Tippi panicked when one of the people walked remotely in direction of our building. She had never done that before.
Mind you, we're on the 5th floor (counting Frenchily ; 6th floor if counting Americanly), so it's not like there's any real "threat" of the person coming too close.
Not sure why she's so tense all of a sudden.

If you heard someone squeal "AWWWWWWWWWWW !", it's because TipToe started meowing to demand attention, jumped onto the desk, approached her face and LICKED MY NOSE.
Just one tiiiiiny lick and then she was fine and went on her merry way.

This morning Tippi and I had a lazy start. She came to wake me up for her breakfast (she's really into her kibble !) but other than that it was pretty chill.
So chill, in fact, that for the first time TipToe didn't fight with her cooling blanket, and instead slept on it peacefully ! It helps that I placed it on "her" chair.

@Neea@corneill.es : I guess you're not supposed to think about this happening. It can happen, but it's supposed to be a surprise. If you think about it before it happens, you somehow wished it into happening ? Or something ?

@Neea@corneill.es : yes ! That has been my conclusion too, talking about MY death has implication about THEIR death.
I also think that, in the way I frame the conversation about how low my life expectancy probably is, noone really wants to confront the "dark" side of privilege. We talk about it in life, but not in death (...they're the same thing, but you see what I mean).

When I bring this up, people tend to react a bit... awkwardly.
But like, this is not me WISHING it. This is me trying to make decisions around what is likely to happen, and making peace with it in the process.

She only calmed down after I started opening the bag slightly to put my hand in there and rub her head. She purred a bit, which I thought was anxiety, but at some point she just lied down and presented her tummy so I think she was actually relaxing a bit.

And that's just the "fun" factors, without even going into, you know, physical disabilities that might threaten my longevity further.
Technically I wanted to adopt last year.
https://mastodon.social/deck/@ladyteruki/113750148061937879
I eventually did it over 6 months "too late". If I hadn't been able to adopt in 2026, I genuinely think I wouldn't have adopted at all, to be honest, because otherwise it'd have been much too risky.

And even then, who the f*ck knows, right ? Not the type of thing you can time perfectly, obviously.
I'm thankful that TipToe has a plan B with @leroimiracle@piaille.fr if anything happens to me, worst case.

Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.
Wait, no, wrong story. Everything changed when she had to get into the travel bag for her first vet appointment. One thing we've known about TipToe for a while is that she HATES to be sequestered into a travel bag.
This was no exception. She was SCREAMING at the top of her lungs during the entire trip there, and then for most of the wait.

The vet, who is the same vet who treated Tomcat for his last few years, was a delight to see again. She said she still thought of him every once in a while because he was very special 💜 She was very happy to meet TipToe too, and to start this new journey together.
We let Tippi out of her bag and she immediately explored the entire consultation room, jumping on the examination table or on the desk to (true story) make a call on the phone XD The vet was like "that's a very confident cat" :P
