Konform Browser 140.9.0-100 has been released!

See release notes for details.

https://codeberg.org/konform-browser/source/releases/tag/140.9.0.100

Besides latest security fixes from #mozilla there is a bunch of updates from #konform #browser. To name a few:

- Reorganized Security Settings with new global configuration for WASM, JIT, WebRTC, WebGPU, Geolocation, DOM Push, etc...

- Security Settings also expose UI for enabling First-Party Isolation (same behavior as Tor Browser) and tweaking Enhanced Tracking Protection.

- Bundled depropped Multi-Account Containers allows configuring per-container proxies and makes container tabs part of core browser experience without having to install telemetry-laden addons.

- Profile Import now supports importing profiles from #firefox and compatible #browsers (#firefox_esr, #floorp, #ironfox, #librewolf, #midori, #palemoon, #waterfox, #zenbrowser)

- Spoofing of Navigator.sendBeacon.

- #privacy improvements and defense-in-depth

- Various bugfixes and minor improvements

The Settings GUI in #konform #browser was in need of some love and is now having a refresh. Several new knobs, some shuffling around to make things more cohesive and less scattered, and some edits of hints to hopefully reduce potential for confusion.

New options for:
- First-Party Isolation
- Enhanced #tracking Protection tweaking in Custom mode (useful mostly for FPI users)
- #webrtc and ICE
- #dom Push and its optional network connection
- #jit features
- WebAssembly (#wasm)
- Geolocation
- WebGPU
- Async callstacks support
- Persisting of browser history

Hints and the "advanced" options expand when clicking the "?" for parent option.

Still a bit hesitant on where global toggles for #webgpu and #webgl belong. And perhaps configuration for cross-origin referrer could also move to Browser Privacy controls?

Otherwise feels like things are coming together - What do you think? Anything you're missing or that feels out of place?

@campuscodi@mastodon.social @briankrebs@infosec.exchange Konform Browser makes all of this disabled by default but makes it easier to selectively enable the features you want - and have them keep working offline.

So you can have your local full-page translations without any telemetry or "AI chatbots" in your face.

I think this makes about:translations useful.

@jimniels For simple inlineable content like a menu, I think you can do even better in pure CSS and hiding/showing it using attribute selectors. Smoother UX since you don't need to trigger navigation and can forego JS alltogether without degradation. https://stackoverflow.com/a/33528185 Using a variation of this on Konform Browser front page to dynamically toggle display of installation instructions for the target selected by user with CSS only: https://konform-browser.codeberg.page/ #nojs #css

@dangoodin @briankrebs Checks out. If anything, it's only scratching the surface. Many (most?) businesses are unknowing accomplices. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47431194

@oblomov@sociale.network @50Percent_Cooler@pony.social Perhaps Konform Browser tastes better? Takes a different stance than LW on a few things and goes deeper on the patching in places. Would love to hear your thoughts! (Currently no Android builds though; will echo what others said about IronFox and Tor Browser there for time being)

@fsf Is "assigning your copyrights to the FSF" implying "making your package into a GNU package" as described here? https://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html

Asking since that page says "For a program to be GNU software does not require transferring copyright to the FSF; that is a separate question" but it is also the only reference I can find on the matter from the linked post. Is there further information available on that separate question?

@kzimmermann@c.im For troubleshooting you can see if there are hints in browser console (Ctrl+Shift+J). You can get more (very) verbose logs via MOZ_LOG and about:logging.

If it is indeed memory related there will sometimes be a line about it in dmesg.

Shot in the dark: Does it persist if you disable hardware acceleration and rm ~/.cache/mozilla? Can also try a fresh profile and Troubleshoot Mode (about:support - but sounds like you tried this already between all the installs).

Also curious if this reproduces in Konform Browser or not. Has deb and apk.

@kzimmermann@c.im Ow.. Yes, crash dumps can be useful. Logging can also be set up via env var or cli flags if you start browser from terminal. https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/xpcom/logging.html#enabling-logging https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_Firefox_problems

@caten@mathstodon.xyz @kepstin@tenforward.social Rather than disabling security checks for HTTPS TLS, it's recommended and more straightforward to explicitly trust either the certificate (if you just use a self-signed one) or its issuer (if it's a cert signed by your own CA). about:preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Certificates -> View certificates... Then from there you an either add a permanent exception for your server or import the CA cert. Should be similar for Firefox, Librewolf and Konform Browser (which is built with intranet access and private networks in mind) there. If you actually want to do raw http:// then see https://superuser.com/questions/1721511/firefox-allow-http-urls-and-not-force-https But from that screenshot it looks like your site does use TLS, just with a private cert.
