@daisy I think it's quite possible and even reasonable to be critical (as in, "reflecting careful analysis and judgment ") of genAI. I hope we can move into a timeline where nuanced discussion of the topic becomes the norm, instead of "Dueling Hot Takes/Unrepentant Shill/Doomerism" timeline we seem to be stuck in now.

I just heard the phrase "Anthropic, on the other hand, is an evil, AI profit-monger" in response to the news that Anthropic is now a Corporate Patron of the Blender Development Fund.

I kind of hate our "Everything Is A Hot Take!! Nuance is DEAD!!" timeline.

@mahryekuh@hachyderm.io Sadly, I think a lot of modern society has been subjected to a "new" business model. Instead of "We will sell you a well-made thing that will last and can be maintained/repaired over time" we got "We will sell you The New Model every few years, now with Increasing Planned Obsolescence!" Maybe that's just my Inner Boomer talking.

@veronica @vkc Do things like Mint and Ubuntu count as "Debian" or "Not Debian"? I'm never sure. I also don't know if I HAVE a "favorite". I'm running Mint now b/c it does what I need it to do on my hardware. So "Does What I Need It To Do On My Hardware" is probably my favorite.

@EWDurbin I had rotator cuff surgery about four weeks ago now. I've been using MacWhisper for voice-to-text dictation. It’s not perfect, but I’m getting better. There's also been a lot of frustrated one-handed typing, so that's a thing.

@EWDurbin I've been using this as an opportunity to become more familiar with the various AI coding tools. So I've been using Claude Code to help me with some of the coding typing. That and just learning how those tools work. Because I haven't used them before.
