Okay, #osm, I won't drink from this lake.

Day 7: Woke to a rainy day. Climbed about 1000m over the coast range, then a steep and cold drop down. Warmed up a bit over a sandwich at a resort, and camped near Merlin, OR.

@taylorlorenz@mastodon.social There's no central entity that can control what you see, when. And even if a single instance tried to do that, its users could just migrate to another instance.

@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social @rl_dane@polymaths.social @Routhinator@tenforward.social I work for a company that develops and supports free, open-source software. It's not evil, so far as I can tell. It's not a co-op, though I could be paid more working at a huge tech company (also with much higher stress level). And we eschew AI, at least so far.
So options may be few and far between, but they exist.

@doctormo@floss.social You can currently set min and max axis values for an area chart (but maybe you mean something different?).
Generalized combo charts are a longstanding wish-list item in LO. Unfortunately the processing is not designed in a way that makes that easy, so it will take some redesign.
As for stats-based charts, histogram and pareto are supported in the newer OOXML schema, so they're relatively straightforward.

Also, it's very close to a Bike Of Theseus. Other than the frame, the only original component is the amazing Chris King headset. I've replaced everything else (maybe excepting the seatpost, I don't remember for sure) because they've worn out or I was still dialing things in.

@doctormo@floss.social Chart types that aren't supported in OOXML probably won't be implemented, because it's important to maintain interoperability with MS Office.

Democrats should be weaponizing the hell out of this.
"The world's richest man, and world's biggest douchebag, is trying to buy this election. Are you going to let him do it, or are you going to use your vote to stand up for democracy and the power of the people?"

@doctormo@floss.social Are there specific chart types you want that aren't supported? Do you want the new types in Microsoft Office, or others that MS doesn't provide?

@doctormo@floss.social For sure there are mechanisms to embed nonstandard content in OOXML that applications that don't support it will ignore. But it's important to maintain interoperability, in that features that break it will generally be considered lower priority. Given that there is a lot to do and not a lot of people to do it, such features are unlikely to get done.

@aaronkurz@mastodon.online @doctormo@floss.social They're not. OnlyOffice supports only the basic 2007-era OOXML charts. It does support surface charts, which LO does not. LO supports bar-of-pie/pie-of-pie, which OO does not.
