If you're upset that wars exist, start electing politicians that don't start wars of aggression.
If you're upset that you were exposed to shocking words, think about why you have been insulated from gory truth for so long.
If you think the arms industry simply shouldn't exist, consider Ukraine. Is it right or ethical that they should be allowed to compress the kill cycle when protecting their cities from invasion?

Screaming bloody murder at a frank summary of capabilities just incentivises the arms industry to do more of their work out of the public eye, or to euphemise it to minimise the public's understanding/reaction.
That, btw, is the only thing this "scandal" has achieved. Redhat aren't cancelling this project, we just don't get to see it anymore.

@robparsons@mastodon.social @cstross@wandering.shop they've had a couple of different articles on it over the past two weeks, depending on how it's been ebbing and flowing, as well as the general newsroom focus has changed.
I don't think they've exactly been suppressing it, I think that just not everything can be front page all the time, and people think if it's not front page it's not covered.

@cato@chaosfurs.social really common in the UK for military training areas to be pretty wilded and natural, and likewise routinely open to the public.
The military needs lots of open, natural space where no development happens. At the same time, as govt land, nature/pollution/etc regulations are generally better adhered to than private developers who have a profit motive.

My main point is that for a long time a lot of people (most people?) specifically said they wanted fedi to be a place without some of the toxic features we saw on twitter, of which quote replies were a big part of it.
I'm sad that despite identifying this feature as a bad way to interact in short-form blogging, we have nevertheless implemented and widely adopted it because it gets good "engagement"/modes of posting.
