I released picolibc 1.8.12 today. Thanks to all who contributed; I'm doing less and less of the work, which is fabulous. Linked from the picolibc home page https://keithp.com/picolibc/ and github https://github.com/picolibc/picolibc/releases/tag/1.8.12 Debian also gets new versions of gcc for arm, aarch64 and risc-v embedded targets based on 15.3.

So I went to the farmers' market this morning to get raspberries for jam (acquired. canned.) The berry purveyor also had (OMG) MARIONBERRIES. I couldn't help myself. I bought a flat. Made one pie. Froze another 5 pies worth of berries.

I'm so happy I can make the pie I want to eat. I've been practicing for about forty years now.

Found an issue with Risc-V ILP32E ABI in GCC today and am looking for guidance.

ILP32E stack need only be aligned to 4-bytes, however types wider than 4 bytes are listed as having wider alignment requirements in current GCC source.

So, when you take the address of an 8-byte value on the stack which is not 8-byte aligned and try to use it with -fsanitize=undefined, you get a UB fault.

Question: Is this a bug in ubsan? Or should all type alignment restrictions be relaxed under ILP32E?

You know how I always say picolibc isn't a Linux C library because it doesn't do all of the fancy Linux stuff? Well, it turns out you don't need much to get a semi-functioning system. $ size test-hello-picolibc test-hello-glibc text data bss dec hex filename 3632 144 4656 8432 20f0 test-hello-picolibc 645697 23704 22576 691977 a8f09 test-hello-glibc I blame Kees Cook for nerd-sniping me on this one. https://github.com/picolibc/picolibc/tree/native-linux

@federicomena@mstdn.mx For EV-specific repairs, there are only a few independent service people around. We just lost one from Portland (they moved). Once mine goes out of warranty, I'm probably going to end up paying the manufacturer's shop prices for maintenance. So far (two years in), that's been much cheaper than ICE. I don't have any data on whether repairs are more or less common; I've had zero major mechanical failures in any car I've bought over the last forty years.

@etchedpixels@mastodon.social @dalias@hachyderm.io yeah, gcc converts printf("hello world\n") into puts("hello world"); That's one of the numerous optimizations present in "hosted" mode, which is why I always tell people to get rid of -ffreestanding when building with a full C library. Btw, on armhf, hello world is way smaller than on x86_64: $ size test-hello-armhf text data bss dec hex filename 1520 76 4624 6220 184c test-hello-armhf
