I saw this movie last week paired with #CityOnTheEdgeOfForever, and when McCoy says, "Now wait just a damn minute," it almost felt like a direct reference to how sideways a time travel mission could go.
I love how bleak this story starts off. The Enterprise crew has become such a pariah that star Fleet won't even send transport, forcing them to fly back in a captured enemy ship to their own court martial, and as they approach Earth they discover the warning indicating the planet is under attack by some overwhelming force.

Of course the real episode prequel to this movie is #TomorrowIsYesterday, which had the slingshot maneouvre.
